What Will Happen To Adam Carolla Show?

I'm not a radio insider at all. Just a fan of Adam Carolla. There's been a lot of talk on the show's website about the future of the show. I've come to this web to get the opinions of radio-knowledgable people.

Is the show going to last? The Winter Book P12+ was 1.5 (but the Winter Phase 2 was supposedly 1.9) which looks to me like an intitial spike in January and a downward trend since then.

Is KLSX as a whole a money maker? What does CBS radio management think of it?

Who is Jack Silver? What's his history?

Any help with these questions would be very much appreciated not just by me but by a lot of Posters on the TACS board.

I predict Adam Carolla will be fired and the position will be filled by yet another one of Jack Silver's close friends. Check out CBS' L.A. roster and Jack's personal address book and you will see much cross over. How else do you explain that horrible Lisa Stanley on K-EARTH's morning show? She has the worst voice in radio, hands down.

Oh my God, can we actually be in sync, actually agreeing on something? Yup, you're right, it's a tough voice to listen to. Always thought so myself...

As a former employee of an affiliate station, I heard a LOT of this show. My question is, after the slow process of FCC violations comes to a head... How many stations will have to turn in their papers because of this guy? They are breaking every language rule recently written (well, more understood than written), and stations WILL have to answer for that. I just don't get how this is being allowed by so many "educated" people.

A lot of people had better hope no one's listening.

Don't worry too much about the FCC coming down on CBS. Historically, CBS stations get away with murder. (The exception was Stern, who they went after because he pretty much dared them too)

For instance, remember when KROQ's Kevin and Bean show called the President of France (as Jerry Lewis) and put him on the air without telling him first? Blatant FCC violation, committed at the same time a Miami station got fined for calling Fidel Castro and doing the same thing. But no foul, no fine for KROQ.

The bottom line is FCC laws, like most laws in this country, are only enforced when the government agency involved doesn't like you or has a financial or political agenda. Sad but true.

I think a lot of people dislike Lisa Stanley on K-EARTH. Personally, I do not like her voice *OR* what she has to say. Or should I say, DOESN'T have to say. She's just another Hollywood name dropper, spewing industry garbage, and it doesn't fit on K-EARTH. Too many morning shows rely on Hollywood "tabloid" news now, in my opinion. It may work for some of the female demo stations, but it sounds horrible on K-EARTH. Lisa Stanley only got this job because she is a close friend of Jack Silver's, and K-EARTH's listeners are the ones being forced to pay the price.

This may be true... But what about all those stations NOT owned by CBS? Each and every one of them is due for a fine. Some of them-- or a sister station-- are on the watchlist already. Typically, violations tend to hit the fan a year or more after the fact. This guy's been on for a year, and every day breaks the rules. Yeah that's sounds all cool and rebel... but I've seen plenty of stations get pounced (target on them or not) for MUCH less. Especially now.

I'm sorry, I just don't see what Adam is doing that would offend the FCC? I am listening to him at least a half hour a day and hear lots of cleaver talk. Nothing blue or even risky. What am I missing?

Hmmm. I listen to this show once in a while, but it seems like when I tune in, they're always talking about "Best (fill in the blank) Song." They play pieces of songs, often way more than the hook. Then they basically say "whoa, that was a great song." Not exactly intriguing radio. I want them to be funny, but rarely can I be lured to stick around. Frosty, Heidi, & Frank, on the other hand, are actually very good. While they should probably be on a better station's morning show, it's nice to hear during the midday.
And, damn, do people really listen to Leykis? They must, since it bills, but it's like the same show everyday. I wish he'd talk more politics and social issues rather than how to "bang broads and never call them back."

My $.02

Lots of talk of poop. Also, words like fellatio, hole, balls... We live in a different climate, friend. The rule now is you can't even make abstract SUGGESTIONS of anything sexual or bodily function-oriented. Use any "tah-tah", "mams", "hoo-hoo", "taco" reference you want... hell, come up with more... they can get you for it and I have seen it. "She was hummin' away"... NO. "Beating off"... DEFINITELY NOT. I've heard all this stuff in the first year alone. Even inuendo is not okay. Can't say "fart", "butthole"-- not even "****", "penis", "vagina" unless you have a VERY good reason and it better be the MOTHER of all reasons. If it comes off even a LITTLE titilating, you're in the danger zone.

I'm telling ya, PER TIME you can get snagged. I'm just sayin'...

It is a new world. I'd like to blame someone but I guess I can't say Bush. Innuendo and all...

If what you just said is really the case, then they should just shut down radio all together. But I suspect you may be overstating things a little.

The real problem with that show is Danny Bonaduce. I was a loyal fan of The Adam Carolla Show last year, but stopped listening when DB came aboard.

It is just a matter of time before Adam is replaced by Opie and Anthony

i doubt he'll be replaced with O&A. someone else yeah, but not them.

and i thought carolla's show was much more entertaining with bonaduce than it was last year without him. i gave the show a few tries again this year and thought it was an improvement.

Opie and Anthony will not be replacing him anytime soon. At least in LA.

I like the show more now also. I am not a fan of Danny talking over Carolla's rants, and I could go without all of the constant "Atta boy" pats on the back, but I like the chemistry brewing between Carolla, Bonadcue and Teressa Strasser.
