What will happen to WBAP after Citadel takes over?

I know someone who used to work at KEWS, and from what all he has told me, the station was actually doing very well in the ratings, and the only reason the owner sold it was due to station ownership limitations. Had that not happened (not including the unfortunate tower collapse) KEWS could have become a serious money maker.

I don’t believe an all-news station is lacking in Dallas because of presumptions it’s not going to be a success, and merely a money loser format. I believe the real issue has to do with consolidation, and fuels an excuse people use to play down an all-news format. The few companies owning stations today expect instant results and care only about the bottom line (especially stuffing their wallets.)

Whatever happened to “you have to spend money to make it”? I guess it’s another one of those forgotten radio “basics” that KPLEX refers to.

What a shame Radio has become.

Yep gotta have them "Basics" ::)

A dose of cynicism, add a drop of hypocricy and you get this from "Little 1"
"...
And get real, advertisers don't dictate what programming should be. Rather, they tell the suits what will or won't probably sell...Then they make the decision, not the agencies."

Hmmm..".advertisers don't dictate what programming should be,rather they tell suits what will or won't sell". Congrats you just contradicted yourself!:) If it "don't sell" why would they program it?!!??

News can sell "IF" done well, and if with resources as was mentioned before. KRLD could do it using more of CH.11 instead of just weather breaks, plus they could use their TSN sources more fully along with some input from CNN. How can you judge something that hasn't been done yet? Don't answer. If you did ,you would sum up once again, why there is blandness, and homoginized formats out there driving down radio. You would rather wave a white flag and give in to TV. How do you watch a tv while in a motor vehicle?Stupidly I suppose if you are accident prone. Laptops are not good in a vehicle either while driving. Hey, have you noticed DFW drive time starts 2 hours before sun up and slacks of at 11p? Have you noticed that not all drivers are 18-35? Not even a majority. Its typical of "most" post 1985 broadcasters, dismissing out right innovations ,plus suggesting more radio listeners are at home or in the office, based on your individual preference. So much for your insight in programming expertise. If you enjoy business, stick to retailing or real estate.

Telling a station or group what they think will and won't sell is far different from actually programming a station. Most ad agencies buy based on demos, not formats. For example, they don't care WHAT they're playing, Tom Thumb just wants to know what station is most likely to have women aged 35-45...
If it's KVIL great, they'll buy AC. If it's KSCS, they'll buy country. They're not telling a station WHAT to program, they just telling them what demo is over or underserved.

And I started in radio in Chicago in the late 70's. Your weak fallback excuse used to be post-'89 broadcasters. Now you've backed it up to '85. Want to move the goalposts again, rather than dealing with the catual content of my posts. Because I realize it's easy to go 'your post 85 man, you just don't get it" rather than deal with how radio really is these days , rather than how you dreamers wish it was...

You started in Chicago in the late 70's,when Lujack,Dahl were starting to fade from the landscape. You obviously have forgotten what people want to hear based on those two alone. Times changed, but the core remains...information,entertainment( original, creative, innovative).
You moved on to sales/management so the landscape has gotten to you and made your vision fade. You're from Chicago, and feel what works there, works here. Regions are different. Notice the accents?
One brush stroke doesn't make a portrait.

They blew a great opportunity today. Mark Davis called in sick and Hal Jay volunteered to fill in for him. TPTB got Brian Wilson instead.

That might have been three hours of radio gold. :D

Quite the little assumer aren't you?
What makes you think I've forgotten what people want to hear?
What indication is there that I work in sales/management (hint- I don't)
And where did I say that what works in Chicago would work here?

That would have been awesome to hear Hal Jay take over Davis's shift for a day. It seems like Hal has been given the go ahead to spend more time chit-chatting since he returned from his vacation. I've enjoyed it! Has anyone else noticed?

Not assuming Little one. Just speculation. If you don't work in sales, you have the capacity module to do so.
