What will KOGO do Post Dr Laura

Dump the news talk and bring back standards like Tony Bennett, Sinatra, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas about what KOGO will do after Dr. Laura ends her show in a few months?

Survive. Talk shows come and go and for the present time, KOGO remains on the air in a talk format.

Hm, how about they rebroadcast an art exhibit?
I bet that will get better ratings...

Yeah, with a weekly minimum cume of only 9 million(+) she was just talking to herself everyday. ::)

I wish they would go back to doing a morning news broadcast. I have to listen to KNX in the morning. They can move Chip the talking dingbat into Dr. Laura's slot.

Dr. Joy Browne, syndicated by WOR New York, is being advertised in trade magazines to replace Dr. Laura. I think Dr. Joy does a much better show. Some posters here obviously don't care for psych talk but I think there should be room for at least one segment each day of non-conservative political talk on a talk station like KOGO.

On the other hand, I guess Dr. Laura is so identified with So. Cal. radio, with her long-time home at KOGO sister station KFI. So my guess is KOGO will replace her with a conservative political talker, not a NYC psych talk show. Will it be local or syndicated?

Is it too late for them to bring back Ernie Myers?

This will be a stretch: imagine local talk ....

In my opinion.... either start calling it "Talkradio 600 KOGO" instead of "Newsradio 600 KOGO", or switch to an all-news format like KNX used to be several years ago before they let (I forget who) go, if they're going to keep calling themselves "Newsradio 600 KOGO".
As for a music format, I can't comment, as I started getting interested in (and actively listening to) radio (well, OK, mediumwave DXing) probably right around the time KOGO first adopted a talk format. I would like some music back on AM, though, with some C-Quam exciters, like for example standards, 50s/60s oldies (especially the style of songs that Justin Bieber's "U Smile" seems to be patterned after - anyone know what genre that was called back in the day?), classic country (like 1350 KTDD San Bernardino), Radio Disney (yes, I happen to like their music), various modern pop/rock genres, etc. But... then... there would still be the problem of coverage.... guess I won't also be able to park on ONE station while driving cross country all day on the summer solstice (leaving San Diego at, for example, 4am, and getting to wherever about 6pm), and still get a usable groundwave signal on an "ultralight" radio. :( (And, XM/Sirius doesn't count - only earth-bound transmitters need apply.)

I would love to see Standards return to San Diego, but lets be honest there is only one frequency it should go to....AM 1360! As for "The Great and Powerful KOGO"! The most sensible thing would be to put on Bill O'Reily, Glen Beck, or Sean Hannity. KOGO is the FOX/ Premiere radio network affiliate in SD, and Premiere is owned by Clear Channel. So one would assume that Clear Channel has an out clause they could use for any of those shows to put the final nails in KFMB's coffin, and keep KOGO at the top of the AM ratings, and perhaps put them at the top of the ratings period.

As you can tell by my screen name I am a KOGO fan!

The only way AM could be viable for music would be if C-Quam AM stearo made a come back. I suppose the music on Radio Disney is O.K although I haven't listened to much since I was 8 or 9, I live in an outer suburb of San Francisco where the signal is crap during the day, and a rumbling noise at night. I'm guessing Radio Disney plays a lot of Justin Bieber these days. Back when I used to listen(about 2005 or 2006) Radio Disney was some light CHR/Hot AC some Oldies and some Disney songs(They didn't start with there own artists until about 2007 or 2008) The only songs I can remember hearing at the moment were Bowling for Soup 1985, and a Kelly Clarkson Song. I seem to remember them playing Gwen Stefiani, but I did a little CHR listening back then. Gosh I'm 13 I'm not supposed to feel nostalgia!!

O'reilly gave up his show in Feb 2009, I think KLSD should pick up ESPN, and can someone tell me where the KLSD calls came from?

KLSD stands for

K-West of the Mississippi
L-Liberal
S-San
D-Diego

What they should have done was put the original 1360 call letters back on it and called it KGB Sports, which would have boosted the KGB brand name, but would have confused (at that time) the arbitron diary people. But with PPM they could do it!

Speaking about KLSD, are they still on planning to increase power to there signal.

Expired.

Clear Channel owns the KSDO transmitter site in Santee. KSDO is owned by a Spanish language Christian broadcaster.

I think it is likely that KOGO will replace Dr. Laura with Sean Hannity. A talker like Laura Ingraham could replace Hannity on KFMB. Another option would be for KOGO to bring Glenn Beck to KOGO from noon-3, but then he would be competing with Hannity. Dave Ramsey is another possibility.
