What will/should they do with 93.3?

OK it's going on a year since Cumulus took over and 93.3 is still struggling. They got rid of the crew, changed the PD, and they even made it co-flagship for the Cowboys. So the question is what will they do. Completely change formats (smooth jazz maybe ::) ), simulcast the Ticket, sell it, leave it as it is and keep trying classic rock. What do you think?

Here's an idea - sell it to the KMAD people who know how to do classic rock RIGHT! Smooth Jazz? Puh-leeze give it a rest. Talk on FM? The only thing more ridiculous is IBOC for AM talk and sports stations. Leave the ticket where it is - on a medium designed for low fidelity.

If it does change formats, we will probably get yet another country station, or yet another Spanish station. More nails in the coffin of local DFW radio, and more reasons to get satellite.

No, the real ridiculous thing is put a FM in MONO, put Sports or TALK on it, THEN put IBOC on it! What a waste :)

So, fire the local DJs and run ABC's national satellite classic rock format like KMAD-FM?

It probably should be made into a Spanish-language station or a station targetted at blacks. It's foolish to use the northern and northwestern rim-shots on 93.7, 94.5, 98.3, 99.1, 101.7, 105.7, and 106.7 for those purposes since they don't cover much of those audiences. The 93.3 facility is the only facility, outside the Cedar Hill facilities, that effectively cover most of the minority communities.

sell it to me, ill buy it and make Power FM commerical!

KVRK is probably best where it is...audience of that is mostly non-ethnic. Moving it out of the northern suburbs into the city makes it cover the wrong group of people.

The point I was trying to make above is that the signals in the market should ideally program to the groups of people they reach. It's silly to program Spanish-language music on signals that miss most of the Spanish-speaking people living in the area.

For whatever reason, we seem to get operators hell-bent on buying facilities to put on formats that obviously aren't going to work. Another example was the failed Air America try on 910. A signal that mainly covered suburban people fleeing taxes, urban school districts, and the big city bureaucratic governments living in urban sprawl commuting with their gas guzzling SUVs was the wrong signal for a talk network proposing liberal solutions (more government and more taxes) or pushing liberal causes (the environment). It may have been more viable on something like KNIT 1480 which really only covers Dallas (of course, it is airing a satellite southern gospel format not likely to appeal to anyone where its signal is...).

Loca Loca Local :D

The 93.3 frequency would be decent for either FM Sports talk or an true "college/alt rock" format.

Praise 93.3..... All us sinners on this board, (including me), need some praise in their life!..... ;)

Asian Country music, with weekend informercials on how the waters of the Ganges will clean out all bodily toxins.

How about 93.3 KILF? (Kaus I Love Food) "FOOD-FM Dishing up a tasty treat"

First Hour:

Eat It - Weird Al
Junkfood junkie - Larry Groce
He Ate too many jelly donuts - Rick Dees
Scenes From An Italian Restaurant - Billy Joel
Supper's Ready - Genesis
Popcorn - Hot Butter
Attack Of THe Killer Tomatoes - Lewis Lee
I Hate To Eat Alone - 10cc
Cold Pizza for Breakfast - Christine Lavin
Feed Me - From the motion picture "Little Shop Of Horrors"
Werewolves Of London - Warren Zevon
Fish Heads - Barnes & Barnes

And yes, "The Recipe File" will be one of the station's best shows.

Plus there'd be lots of dinner Gift Certificate give-a-ways

Would there be a market for Spanish Sports Talk?

What....so you can hear that guy say, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!" at 100,000 watts in stereo?! ;D

Somewhere buried in my files I have a study that somebody did way back when that analyzed the basic break down of stations per market and the general trends in commercial formats based on those numbers. To sum it up, it basically said that if you have 5 stations you'd have a AC, a country, a rock, a news/talk/info and a CHR.
I don't remember the exact breakdowns, but th e6th was maybe oldies, the 7th a fracturing of the AC, 8th a second talk (usually programmed as ''talk' versus the "News' station, etc...9th a second rocker, etc etc etc

Now the caveat is that not every market follows this, etc, but GENERALLY there are trends that can be spotted in what format holes there are in a market, etc...

Having said that, and realizing that I know jack about Spanish formats, I would think a straight talk station might have more mass appeal than sports. Given that Sports is usually the 3rd or 4th talk station in a given market, seems like a talk station appealing to the hispanics would be the place to start...

Hey - it's about the music. KMAD has quite a following in Collin county because the music library doesn't suck. Who cares if its satellite - the format is GOOD!
