What will the New Year bring to Tucson radio???

As we say good-bye to another year,is there some light at the end of the radio tunnel in Tucson? AND I don't mean a train. Can we expect the same boring beat to death radio. Will KIIM continue being the top "Cow",followed by Mix,Q,and Spanish KCMT. What of KLPX,what has happened to them? It seems KHIT is kicking them to the curve. Without Rush,Sean and Beck, KNST would be nowhere. That morning guy on 790 can't seem to hold a candle to the Justice on Truth.Imagine if 104 had the 3 national talk powers.
Just thinking-since KLPX is a great signal with not much ratings-shake the market up a bit-put OLDIES back on FM (some markets are realizing Oldies equals money from advertisers) and bring back pros who got hurt with the corporate downsizing. Like Allan Micheals,Jim Bednarik,Ed alexander Andy Taylor, Slick Joan Lee and so on.
Thoughts?

My odds on favourite for major tweaking is KLPX......I wonder if Andy and Jonas have their cans ready and ample coffee supply on tap......?? ???
I would rather hear Mike and Tyler again. Andy and Jonas were okay but one of those two was a puker and just didn't come off natural. I'm not sure who is making the decisions at KLPX but whoever it is, they should either sell it off or step down so a real broadcaster can come in and make it the heritage station it was. I thought it was a dumb move to blow out Barry and Andy, but then to mess with the format and station to the point where it is changing every couple of years it just stupid. At least with KHYT they started as a Hits station, while it is bizarre hearing Looking Glass or even Simon and Garfinklestien on the station when I have tuned in - it's what they were doing before years ago and isn't sappy like Mix. If KLPX put Frank back on KFMA and brought back Andy and Jonas I might listen, bring back Mike and Tyler - I'd would be there every morning at least to see if they were still funny.

you can catch Mike Rapp on KiiM-FM doing morning news updates. Tim Tyler is doing mornings on KHIT. Andy is filling in on KHIT.

Andy - meant to say "Hey!" to you, but you looked like you were on a mission on Xmas Day in the drug store.

...back to the topic...

Dunno how the book has been playing out for the morning drive, but I'm now doing a morning tune-out most drives into work. Tim T. is doing well, but it's the same.... ::sigh::

Can I put in a request?? Remember "The Early Rock Show" Sunday mornings on KLPX? Three hours of stuff you've missed out on...any chance a station in this town could do that again? Please??

Thanks Man! If it was WalGreens, I was looking for a Snuggie and yet never managed to find the Zebra One! LOL!

My Two Cents on the Rock Show, I think thats what local radio needs, specialty programming created locally. Nothing against the Steve Goddards and Kingsley Countdowns, great shows but we need locally hosted entertainment driven shows featuring music, interactive and fun. I know alot of it these days is money and spending to have a jock produce a show still seems to me to be a bargain. Who remembers Terry O and the Blues show?

Snuggie - that's at the OTHER Wal-store... ;D

So, this and other threads have clearly stated that - in a market of this size - "specialty programming created locally" might work.

Obviously, there's little interest in even considering an opportunity for someone with the skills and talent to pull something like this off. I'm sure corporate wants nothing to do with what is currently working.

When do "the suits" wake up and see this train coming?

Yea and once everyone gets used to ipods, internet and satellite services, who will even care about specialty programming, you are your own PD/MD if radio no longer provides better choices.......

Fair enough, but isn't this part of the "oops, too late" syndrome attacking the industry? What happened to this discussion five or ten years ago? "It's a fad, they'll be back!", right?

If there's no real reason in listening to terrestrial radio, what real reason is there, other than to "...keep you informed in the event of an emergency?"

if that emergency doesn't happen between 6 or 7 pm and the next morning when the morning news guy shows up...or the morning jock to do show prep.

Couldn't have asked for timing to play into this comment, tragic but as we find, true
