Pierre Robert, WMMR's long time midday DJ, passed away on Oct. 29th at age 70. Yet the midday shift is still being used to discuss his life and favorite music. During the Robert time slot on Friday, Nov. 21, a past DJ on WMMR discussed his admiration for Robert with the station's music director. Robert is still listed on the WMMR website as the 10:30 am to 3 pm host.
This reminds me of how long Rush Limbaugh's past tapes were played and substitute hosts continued to discuss his life and politics in his time slot. Rush died on Feb. 17, 2021. The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, iHeart's replacement for Rush's time slot, didn't begin until June 21, 2021, more than five months later.
Will Beasley continue to remember Robert in that midday time period for many weeks to come using substitute hosts? When someone is finally named to replace Robert, will that person have the freedom to talk as Robert had? Or will WMMR join most other stations trying to keep chatter to a minimum during workday hours?
