What would be the best AM indoor antenna?

I want better reception for my main stereos I have 2 homes and I would like to have the best am reception I can get with both of them at a decent price range, or if there is something I can make? I wish there was something simple I could do for AM, that would also be protected by lightling strikes. I already had one this year, I unhook all of my equipment when I am gone now.

For AM reception, I use the Select-A-Tenna, you can go to:

I have the original Model 541 and you simply tune it up to the frequency you wish to listen. The other models may be fine but I have easily logged a number of stations with it both day and night using both my Sony and GE SR radios.

Thanks wonder how they work inside a metal roof? my other house has a metal roof on it.

Yeah could, but then I wouldnt be able to have my outdoor antenna hooked onto it.
