OK.....I know this will never happen but considering that most states have their own "Association of Broadcasters" ( which to me BTW is more/less nothing more than like joing a country club )...what if and only what if..say that one day the FCC says to all the local TV and radio stations "..OK we will now take care of only the technical end and issuing the call letters BUT you guys are responsible as far as what goes out over your airwaves..we will NOT get involved with that". In other words the local TV and radio stations and/or the state assocaition of broadcasters will handle the content, how much children's TV they must air, etc...
If this would happen how would TV & radio be different, if it would even be different? Would there still be broadcast networks? I would imagine in that case it would be but content I wonder? Since of course some cities and states are more liberal than others that should be interesting. Could we see full blown nudity, sex and four letter words on local TV in such places as San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston or Denver ( I can see it now "F*cking on the Deuce" )? Or a lot more religious programming in places like Little Rock, Birmingham or Jackson, Mississippi?
Children's TV...more of it in some places and not at all in others?
Syndication...would we see a more graphic version of say Jerry Springer or Maury Povich for example in a place like LA or Chicago but a very tame version of the same show say in Huntington, West Virginia?
I would imagine we would see more overall local programming and perhaps less corporate ownership but would it be a good idea say if your state had got more involved with your local TV and radio as far as what goes out over the air is concerned?
