WHEN was/is CBS -- now WTVH
WSYR was/is NBC -- now WSTM
WNYS was/is ABC -- now WSYR (was WIXT 1977 -- 2005)
I resisted explaining every single program. The movie programs are obvious. I wish the paper had been more specific rather than just "Cartoons" on Saturday morning, but you know those "cartoons" at that time included Mighty Mouse, Heckle & Jeckle, Bugs Bunny, etc. Ch. 3 used to use Popeye cartoons a lot as filler (ah, the good old Max Fleischer ones!).
A nearby advertisement from Ch. 3 indicated Johnnie Carson's guests that night would be Henny Youngman, Kirk Douglas and the Willis Sisters.
A nearby advertisement from ch. 9 plugged the 6:00 movie as a "Baron Daemon Special" -- he was their station announcer, Mike Price, who used to play a vampire-type character to present horror flicks and Little Rascal flicks in the afternoons. His costume burned in a station fire in the mid-60's, and that pretty much spelled the end of Baron Daemon (pron: day-MOAN).
Channel 3, being an NBC affiliate, had the most network color shows. ch. 9 definitely had a color film chain by then, but not color studio cameras. I've been told ch. 3 did local specials on film in color as early as the 50's.
