What would you change in ths Philadelphia market?

If you can change anything, in the Philadelphia market, what would you do?

I'd get Radio One out of here; I hate everything about them.
I'd also get Y100 back; but make it more localized (not the music selection)

94.1- Bring back WYSP, playing Modern Rock (not alternative) and Today's Heavy Metal
98.1- 50s/60s oldies
98.9- Southern Rock

92.5 - keep as is
93.3 - keep as is (Arbitron rated #5 - why change it?)
94.1 - Modern Rock
95.7 - switch to "Club Ben" which is already on HD2
96.5 - keep as is
97.5 - Classical/Jazz
98.1 - keep as is (Arbitron rated #4 - why change it?)
98.9 - keep as is
100.3 - move WDAS-AM's soul format here
101.1 - keep as is (Arbitron rated #1 - why change it?)
102.1 - keep as is
102.9 - keep as is
103.9 - keep as is
104.5 - modern Country (ala "Thunder Country")
105.3 - keep as is (Arbitron rated #3 - why change it?)
106.1 - dump MIX and go back to a DanceAC format
106.9 - 50s/60s/70s Oldies
107.9 - Spanish CHR

Agree with everything for both of you but

103.9 - Back to Alternative
106.1 - stays as is
106.9 - KYW-FM

I would also

Kill WAYV to make KYW on 94.9 and kill WSOX for an alternative rock format on 96.1 in Wilmington!

Kill WDAC (or push it somewhere else) and move PST as far to Philly as possible so it reachs all of the market.

All I would agree with is an FM simulcast of KYW. 94.1 seems to be doing better by far as WIP-FM, and I can't wait to hear the Fightins on FM. Remember, there are music royalty fees to be paid in music formats, and those can be QUITE expensive. I think CBS and Greater Media have carved out good niches in the sports format, and are happy so far. Seems that spoken-word is becoming the wave of the future for FM.

You cannot put a Class B signal on 94.9 in Phila, with or without WAYV in Atlantic City. You cannot because of 1st adjacent issues with WZZO 95.1 in Bethlehem http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WZZO&service=FM&status=L&hours=U and WDSD 94.7 in Dover DE http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WDSD&service=FM&status=L&hours=U. Believe me, if it would fit, it would have been done decades ago.

There are stations that are close, like 97.3 Millville/97.5 Trenton, but are pre-1962 and are grandfathered. They would not be allowed today. And why put a hugely profitable WAYV dark for a repeater station in another city?

In this thread, profits aren't important - We're discussing what we want

I never listen to WAYV or WZZO so I wouldn't mind killing them for a 94.9

The farthest south site is Media, 62.2 miles from WZZO and WDSD is 70+ from that location. It could be an alotted Class A without WAYV. But i'm saying i'd like it to be a full class B.

I would bring back the old Eagle 106.1. I really liked that station. A lot of stations sound alike these days to me. An industry wide move away from all the "canned" stuff would be nice.

If Eagle 106 were around today it would essentially be Q102 with a different name.

That'd be great, Q102 is a terrible CHR, does anyone like it's morning show?I much prefer PST over Q102.

I'd hate to lose 106.1 - Best Hot AC I ever heard, so maybe we can kill 97.5 for "Eagle 97"

I have an idea, talk radio!!!!....oh....we do have it?....oh, you mean WPHT!!!. Well, I always thought talk radio denoted a conversation between people, an exchange of opinions and ideas, which WPHT doesn't have. I wouldn't consider allowing a caller to talk for 10 to 15 seconds, rushed through like cattle, "talk radio". The old days of WWDB, WHAT, where the caller was allow the opportunity to speak, to have an excahnge with the host is gone. Yeah, how bout a REAL talk station.

WWDB is gone for a very simple reason: few people called in to talk about anything. That is why most stations go with nationally syndicated shows. Even in a city the size of Philadelphia, there are relatively few DIFFERENT callers.

Costs and ratings...thus ROI....have nothing to do with such decisions, I'm sure. :)

Are you kidding me!!!! there was a wait of up to 1 hour at times, some times a little less. 2nd, "few people called in? if that was the case, then why was the wait soooo long? stations go with nationally syndicated shows for the simple reason......THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY A HOST!!!!!

Stations come and go - I miss WNUW 97.5 Now 97.5 and 94.1 WYSP but they're never coming back.

This is why WWDB was changed; and it won't come back.
