What would you do?

Pick one current station in SC and describe how you would either tweak, change, or modify it. My choice: Hot 103.9 WHXT. First of all, I would change the VO of the station to the same VO as WWWZ Z93Jamz uses (the name skips my mind at the moment) I would also change the handle to Z103Jamz. (Notice a liking to WWWZ? LoL) Most importantly, I would add more old school, reggae, and rhy top 40 crossovers for variety. Right now there is too much of the same on WHXT revolving around ATL/snap/crunk/bling bling music and it gets very repetitive. I would get rid of the syndicated Wendy Williams. For the DJ's, I would would have Neek and Venom on from 10am-3pm for a "Daytime Divas" show, C Diddy from 3-7pm, DJ Prince Ice with Ice Cold Radio on from 7PM-12AM and have a live request Midnight Love show from 12-2AM. For daily mixes, from 12PM-1PM, I would have a mixshow called Midday Mixdown consisting of daily themed mixes ranging from requests, old school, reggae) At 5pm, I would change the name of the Car Phone Megamix to the Rush Hour mix playing nothing but remixes, dancy rhythmic hits, dance mixes of popular slower songs, crunk, and of course booty music. The 9:00 Mixtape would move to 10:00, but have more underground hip-hop, exclusive mixes, and premieres of the hottest in underground and mainstream hip-hop, and occasional old school mixes. Well that's my perspective. What's yours?

I'd second all your suggestions, especially getting rid of Williams. But, don't hold your breath, what you are suggesting would make 103.9 a very cool major market station. One additional suggestion which we know won't happen for techincal reasons: do something to improve that signal---already hard to recieve in Cola NE, and will get worse as the metro continues to spread out.

Hey Neil I like your ideas about HOT... I think IC should let HOT be its self again like it was when Rainbow Radio owned them... They were one kick butt station when they launched... I may be coming to SC in a few weeks so I will give Hot a listen and give my thoughts... We'll see in a few weeks... CC1

Hey Carroll, I think when you come, you won't be all that impressed with WHXT or even WXBT. How the hell is WXBT getting such good ratings? Their sound is watered down, audio processing sucks, and mix shows seem to be now obsolete because I have never heard one on there anymore. The only good thing WXBT has going for them is Russ Parr which is a really good show.
