WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE 104.5 BECOME

B

TAKING A POLL. I WILL PUT AN EXAMPLE STATION IN ANOTHER CITY NEXT TO THE FORMAT. GO TO YES.COM AND TYPE IN THOSE CALLERS TO SEE THEIR PLAYLISTS, THEN ANSWER WITH THE LETTER (A,B,C,D,) AND FORMAT. NOTE: THESE ARE ALL CLEAR CHANNEL FORMATS IN OTHER CITIES

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE 104.5 BECOME:

A) ALTERNATIVE/MODERN ROCK (WWDC WASHINGTON, D.C.)
B) SPANISH (KSJO SAN JOSE, CA)
C) LITE FM (WLTW NEW YORK CITY)
D) FM NEWSTALK (WPGB PITTSBURGH, PA)

My vote would be A or D. C ain't gonna happen as that was what they just got rid of. And I can only hope and pray B isn't the choice, altho the rumblings seem to indicate that WSNI will be "si habla espanol" by Monday.

I'm thinking D as the choice, maybe wishfully. I'd love seeing what a locallly programmed newstalker would do here, if done well. If 'SNI does indeed go Spanish. that will be a total of 4 Spanish speakers in the market, as WPWA-1590 will be flipping too.

We'd then have WPHE-690, WPWA-1590, WTTM-1680, and WSNI-104.5 as Spanish speaking outlets, all targeting different audiences.

How about E) SMOOTH JAZZ (WJJZ PHILADELPHIA, PA)

Sorry to see WJJZ go. At least there's Sirius satellite radio.

WJJZ and WSNI are owned by the same company. Not smooth jazz!

I would prefer A, but B looks like the likely choice.

I have seen nothing firm which indicates 104.5 will be hispanic. but--104.5 has tried many formats without much success. Hispanic could garner decent ratings/revenue for cheap channel.

Clear Channel has been expanding their Spanish formats (not sure what ones because "Spanish" is not a format, it is a language) as of late.

"Rumba 104.5"!

I hope not though.

I'm already missing Sunny!

I have seen anger through the years on various R-I boards when CC flips a station Spanish language. There are two variations of complaints either "they are crazy we don't need another Spanish station" or "this market isn't Hispanic enough to justify switching a station to Spanish".

When the ratings come out and Spanish language programming does well. often times FAR better than what anyone expected or predicted, you can hear the crickets chirp because it's so quiet. Nobody ever acknowledges the high ratings and certainly nobody EVER says "I was wrong".
