What WWME should do to tweek the station

1.) take off the ethnic programing on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
2.) Knock it off with the informercials especially Sunday night at 7
3.) Have a movie (old classics) on at 8 Mon-Fri
4.) Take off all the shows from 1980 and up and use just 50s-79
5.) have a scary movie on Saturday night at 10:30 with an old horror host rerun not svengoolie
6.) Have a classic movie on sunday afternoon like WGN did with family classics
7.) have old children shows in the mornings 7-9
9.) maybe get old reruns of talk shows (mike douglas or something) and game shows for daytime.
10.) Bring back some old favorites like Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Six Million dollar man, hardy boys/nancy drew , mchales navy, bob commings show, please don't eat the daisies
11.) On Saturday Morning put old saturday cartoons and shows on from 7-11
12.) American Bandstand reruns on saturday at 11 am
13.) also a classic mystery movie sunday at 12 noon like charlie chan.
14.) NO MORE SPORTS!
15.) Wonderful world of Disney on Sunday nights at 6

1.) take off the ethnic programing on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
WHY? the station makes money aitring that.

2.) Knock it off with the informercials especially Sunday night at 7 WHY? The station makes alot of money airing that.

3.) Have a movie (old classics) on at 8 Mon-Fri WHY? Then you'd kvetch because of the quality of the movie. Most of the good stuff is already taken kin Chicago.

4.) Take off all the shows from 1980 and up and use just 50s-79. WHY? Then other people would kvetch about "too many old shows.

5.) have a scary movie on Saturday night at 10:30 with an old horror host rerun not svengoolie. You should apply for the job.

7.) have old children shows in the mornings 7-9 WHO would watch scratch old black and white stuff?

9.) maybe get old reruns of talk shows (mike douglas or something) and game shows for daytime. They are no longer in syndication,. They would have to PAY ALL the guests and it would be WAY too expensive. Also, many people on thhose programs have DIED and their families would not agree to "reruns." Why do you think Ed Sullivan or Johnny Carson are no longer on tv?

10.) Bring back some old favorites like Voyage to the bottom of the sea, Six Million dollar man, hardy boys/nancy drew , mchales navy, bob commings show, Favorites of WHOM?

12.) American Bandstand reruns on saturday at 11 am See #9 above.

14.) NO MORE SPORTS! Another profit center ended.
15.) Wonderful world of Disney on Sunday nights at 6. Not available. They want you to watch THE DISNEY CHANNEL.

Seems like there was alot of effort here. In about 1970 I wrote to Channel 26 and gave them a list of shows. They werent ready to do that for nearly 30 years. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!

Rather, Disney would rather have you forget them altogether, since everything on Disney Channel's no older than the late-1990s.

I think some of it has to do with DVD sales. If companys can sell the shows. I mean I've seen a complete season of Too Close For Company at the used CD shop for $9.99. So some shows can get gotten on the cheap.

I think there are a lot of good older films, but WWME-CA should go for the older "B" flicks. In the day Channel 32 had a lot of sucsess with the Blondie series.

I think you never know how well a rerun stacks up. For instance One Day At A Time, I used to watch all the time growing up, but two years ago when it was rerun every weekday it was hard to watch. And it certainly wasn't funny.

But then again All In The Family seems to do well for Channel 23 and frankly I don't understand how any young person can watch that. It is so dated. But it works, I guess

tjthedj you are some kinda guy. first of all Johnny Carson is on tv still.. On WWME they showed best of carson all the time. there is plenty of public domain movies and shows available so dont give me that crap. A station should give what the public wants.thats the way it used to be. I noticed that you had 4 stations in your profile. I am curious to know what they were and your ratings when you owned them and what they are now. If you are a funeral director now i bet they were as dead as your customers now. thats why you are a funeral director .

Hey, "The Best of Carson" is a program length commercial that they use to SELL THE VIDEOS. The station probably "barters" - no cost to them but gets a piece of the price of each video sold.

When you pay so much for a license you do what leads to money. A station should show WHAT MAKES THE MOST MONEY FOR THEM.

We sold the 4 (radio) stations because we got an offer we couldn't refuse. Nothing DEAD about a million 4 (in 1985). It put my kids through college, got us a nice house and we can live on the interest.

I know that you mean public domain movies and tv shows that (mostly) are dated, scratchy, black and white filler. Take a look at ch 24 in St. Louis (not one I was involved in but a good example). I was pd of 4 low power tv stations (owned by a Jesuit priest) that showed alot of that dreck. Stuff like I Married Joan and Roy Rogers. There are a few tv networks that do that too.

I retired in 1985 (at age 46). I loved radio since I was a kid, and my wife was very surprised at both the offer and the fact that I WANTED to get out.

The funeral business came (6 years later) because a friend asked if I would be interested, as I'm presently also a chaplain in a 100 bed nursing home.

I think I saw that station in st louis. was it an X pax station now RTN or that other one that is mostly religious programing. I liked both.. i was watching roy rogers and some other old westerns.

Look up KNLC on the internet. No advertisers, no ratings. Big loser.

Not a good business model. Run mostly by volunteers. It'll pay for itself when it is sold someday.

The low power station I programmed was i, Arnold, MO, near St. Louis. It was "EWTN" interspersed with old stuff. Part of my Catholic deacon ministry.

FEW tv stations would cater to what you seem to "like" Go to a video staore and rent Our Miss Brooks or get a satellite receiver and watch The Life of Riley.

You should Google OMNI Network, AI and RTN (Retro Network). That's your speed, but don't expect big revenue.

I too enjoy "the old stuff" but it won't be programmed for any ratings.

Lots of good ideas. For movies howsabout showing the Frankenstein, Wolfman, Invisible Man movies
on Saturday night or are those unavailable? I like what Ch 7 does on late night Friday and Saturday
showing old films from the 30's and 40's.

Well Gramps you r so right. All that happening is just as possible of Aliens landing in my backyard. But we can dream. As a side note ch 38 will be going all classic soon. they have a deal with sony and some other company. You might notice Mamas Family and Green acres. Soon to come will be lots of old shows.. thank god replacing those informercials! well I guess they are making money and despite what tjthedj said there is money in classic TV. Why else is ch 38 (I) buying classic shows? and leaveing informercials behind? also METV is growing from just a few shows a day to a full fledge station.

Hey, I bet they are NOT buying - they are BARTERING (or picking up the old stuff from some network-also a barter). Big difference in the deal. I play your show in exchange for playing a commercial. NO cash in the barter. ALL cash in the buy.
