What year did martis change from beige to gray?

All marti equipment made in the mid 80s was beige. Sometime in the late 80s or early 90s, it changed to gray. Does anyone know when that occurred?

I'm trying to guess how old this old beige RPT-30 might be!

I'd say that you could tell more about a Marti's age by the size and weight. The older ones could give you a hernia dragging them around. One of the newest one's I've used was kind of a dark biege as I recall.

Well back in the days that martis had tubes in them, they were in a box that stood nearly 7" tall. When they switched to solid state, the chassis stayed about the same. That was the RPT-25, which was made until approximately 1985 or 86.

When the RPT30 came out, it was in a chassis that was about 3" tall, rack-mountable in two rack spaces. And it was beige-ish, the same color that the RPT-25s had been for many years.

At some point, they started making them a charcoal color. That was my question, and I was hoping someone would know off the top of their head. I think I'll check those power supply caps. (Good suggestion)

Of course, I could also call BE and give them the serial number...

I may be wrong, but I think I first saw gray ones after BE took over. Maybe even after they moved the plant from Texas to Illinois.

My experience...not the same support and service as the original Marti. I use
the fellow that still offers service at the old factory in Texas...he is tops...
fast and reasonable. Thanks JBI (SRS electronics, I believe)

Yes, SRS is in Cleburne ,Texas in the original Marti factory. Rick can fix just about anything that has the Marti name on it. He is quick and reasonable. He's even fun to talk to. In fact, if you call, George Marti may actually answer the phone. Better yet, drop by and George can tell some great stories. That alone is worth the price of admission.

I'll second the motion on SRS. While BE can fix Marti equipment, they are slower & cost a more than SRS. I hope SRS sticks around for as long as I continue to play radio...That's not to say BE's regular tech support/repair is poor...it's actually quite good. I get the impression that anything with the name Marti on it lands pretty low on the BE totem pole.

I've sent marti STL's back to SRS and was VERY happy with their price AND speed of return. The units worked wonderfully after getting it back from them. I'll be sending a RPU unit back to them soon to get reworked.
