what yo predictions for chicago radio in 2008

Q 101 because they are going nowhere. Watch them flip Top 40 to fight with Kiss and B. That would make for some interesting CHR wars.

Love FM will be the biggest rising station in the city. I get this feeling like Brian Middleton and the gang will turn things around and their new focus on the 80's dance was a good move.

Q101 is trending way up since tightening their music and re-focusing on men. Some of their best numbers in all dayparts in a while. They're not going anywhere.

Randy Michaels will turn WGN into a satellite repeater station; broadcaster the most conservative broadcasts he can get his hands on.

I am going to make a 50/50 on the Lite (WLIT) flip after Christmas/New Year. Andwho knows if they flip or not, i'm ganna say that they will flip because the numerous of ac station's (100.3 and the New Fresh-Fm). Who knows, I just don't see them lasting any longer, unfortunately. So yeah, the Light will be turned off....soon! By the way, Are there ratings good? ....Good christmas selection this season by the way.

And I think One of the CC's are ganna flip...WGCI or KISS. Just what I predict.

Also.....WLS, the big 89 will go back to playing music and Clark Weber will be the morning man. WMVP will change their call letters to WCFL and they will move their studios to 300 North State Street and also play music.
Jerry G. Bishop will do mornings on WCFL because Jim Runyon has passed on. Radio will once again be tolerable.
They will also tear down the United Center and rebuild Chicago Stadium across the street,

Imus will show up on WLS.

Lujack and Lil' Tommy will return ... with Lujack phoning it in.

Landecker will return to oldies radio.

2008 will be a year of rebuilding for Q101. It'll be interesting to see what they do in mornings. I predict that they will ultimately re-hire Mancow.

The music has certainly improved considerably, but there are other elements of that station that still need work.

Other predictions:
--Fresh 105.9 will be an "also ran," but its impact on 93.9's numbers will still be felt
--Clear Channel will re-brand 93.9, but it will remain an AC format
--Jack FM will start to add jocks in other dayparts
--WLS will see a nice ratings boost thanks to the 2008 elections

Just my thoughts...

Kiss and B96 will have a CHR-war of the words against each other. B96 will probably shift around it's lineup, but Eddie & Jobo won't be going anywhere just yet. The Kiss lineup will change a few times, almost every quarter... but that's not a prediction, that's just the trend over there!

Q101 will start to rise again. Nowhere near where it was before, but its changes musically will definitely help it out of this terrible multi-year slump they've been in.

JackFM will no longer try to be an A25-54 station. Rather, they will begin to be a dominant M25-54 leader in Chicago. While Dahl doesn't do it for me, it will definitely help the station.

Fresh 105.9 will rise as a great force for the F25-54 demo. They need to market the station since it hasn't really happened yet. But I think CBS had a good strategy in putting Fresh on the air... Pull the Mix's F25-54 numbers down, help B96 compete against Kiss's F25-34 listeners that are helping Kiss beat B, and also pull away listeners from the Lite and Love.

The Mix is going to be forced to choose... older female, or younger female. With Fresh positioned inbetween the Mix and the Lite, both of those stations are going to have to spin themseleves younger and older, respectively.

The Hispanic Stations are going to continue to skyrocket.

Love will have a good year... they've been all over the map lately, but Brian Middleton helpin them out will definitely keep them on the up-and-up.

WZZN will get rid of as much Shannon as they can... I think management knows that they need a local connection to Chicago 24/7... not when Shannon wants their to be.

WGCI will lose it's reign in Chicago... still a strong contendor, but killing their morning show will not help them at all.

PPM will get delayed. again.

Just my thoughts... agree? disagree?

What yo predictions for chicago radio in 2008

My Chicago Radio predictions:

1. The Eric and Kathy show will finally be syndicated in markets such as
New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas

2. The T-Man Show will finally invade Chicago

3. WLIT will hire Victor Zaragoza to voicetrack afternoons

4. A CC station will change its name to "WiLD"

5. The Mix will re-change its format to modern AC calling itself "101.9FM, Today's Rock Mix!"

Just my thoughts.....

For all those that think Q101 is changing it will NOT happen. There is no possible way for Chicago to have a format gap for Alternative music, and no XRT does not count. I do agree with Mark, Mancow will be back some how. As for music why have I heard Pantera, Killswitch, Dragonforce, Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet for my Valentine. If they play these tracks might as well play new rock from Another Animal, Hell Yeah, and some Sixx.A.M and others. I know Active Rock maybe won't work, but do you guys think a Hybrid station playing Active/Alternative playlist but only focusing on New Rock/Alternative music and just focusing on the 90's as gold. What do you guys think??

Garry Meier returns with the same type of show he had at WCKG
Kevin Matthews back on the air in Chicago full time
Imus on WLS

Maybe a wish list and not a prediction list

Re: what you predictions for Chicago radio in 2008

1. The Q101 Market Manager and Brand Manager will be released to "pursuit other interests." Q101 has lost billing from the low $20 millions to $12.5 million in five years. They'll have to change formats or hire back Mancow to regain some traction in the market. By the way, they were more of a Active Rock format than Alternative when they were maxing out revenues.
2. Run by men, Fresh will become stale in three books and CBS will try FM talk again. Mix and Love will dominate young and old women.
3. Don & Roma will hold out on their contract again this year, but Citadel will release them. WIND will hire them, have one dramatic book and fade back to the low ratings.
4. Imus will take over mornings on WLS.
5. Randy Michels will do his best to contemporize WGN and fail. He will sexually harrass at least one female employee and be reassigned by Zell to "special projects."
6. Garry Meier will guest host on Jack and be offered another onair job in Chicago. His agent will screw it up.

My Prediction that WAIT AM-850 would be a government political radio station, that would broadcast meetings from The House of Rep from Springfield, and City Hall meetings from Chicago, along with an hourly CNN headline news on the hour.
