Simple it's DRU. He "bonded" with the victim and felt the victim would have wanted it that way, and that little thing called "promoting the station".

The other contestants really had no control over the unfortunate events, and had spent much time and energy preparing and participating in the contest. IMHO, I think that this was a fair and respectful ending to the contest. This brings closure to the events, and continuing the contest as it had been before would not have been appropriate.

Dru not being mentioned must mean that he didn't bond with the newspaper reporter sufficiently for him to be the centerpiece of the story. His self promotion is slipping.
