This was asked once before on this board and no one answered so let’s take another chance that someone may know the whereabouts of Roger LaPlante.
Roger was a staff meteorologist back in the day at WNEB-AM 1230 in Worcester before being wooed to WAAB-AM 1440 & WAAF-FM 107.3 when they shared studios in downtown Worcester on Mechanic Street. I believe that after his stint at WAAB & WAAF, he went to a station in Springfield.
A little glimpse into how far back in time this takes us, WAAF was still a beautiful music station, fully automated. And no one was taking them to task for having no live personalities ala Mike, Radio 92.9, etc. LOL
Al Fraser, if memory serves me correct was the morning personality on the Top 40 formatted WAAB along with weather reports from Roger. I can’t recall who was doing the local news at the time. I was one of the weather watchers for Roger and visited the studios many times to observe the radio business.
Anyhow, a fun story about WAAF, Roger would give a weather update every morning at 20 past the hour on the FM side from 6 to 9 a.m. After his weather report which would fill at least 2 to 3 minutes, Roger would get to spin one vocal record while getting the big reel to reel tape ready to roll until his next update. He would put a lot of thought into the vocal choice because as Roger would tell me, “It’s only once every hour during morning drive that I get to play DJ”.
