Whatever happened to concert coverage?

I remember the old days at The ZOO when record reps would bring the stars into the station for interviews. It was fun and helped hype their concert a bit, too. For big shows we'd do a POOR PEOPLES CONCERT at midnight, featuring an hour of the act's music for listeners who couldn't scrape up the admission price to the show. We also broadcast a lot of concerts live. The ZOOKEEPER Concert Line was a phone recording that gave all the upcoming shows info in the pre-internet era. And the DJs were always encouraged to give their comments on shows.
The sales department had no influence on who we interviewed or what we played. It was a very different time.

The Ticket has kind of taken the lead on concert coverage in DFW, particularly during the Musers and Hardline shows. They regularly have musical acts in studio or comedy acts (if you happen to think Pauly Shore is funny), and they're always talking about concerts. That the music stations have punted on this is regrettable.

Right, and the Dumbed-Down approach of DJ's at stations like 97.1, toward their listeners, regarding music and concerts, is unpalatable to me. (But their "core" listeners, whomever they are, probably have no problem with how they're being spoon fed the pablum.... ! )
