Whatever happened to "Fine Tuners" on TV

I reckon they went out when they stopped making TVs that no longer had dials but the LED buttons.

I just read about all the trouble people have with the DTV tuners and got to wondering this.

Was wondering if with DTV if we're going back to the old days of having to fine tune each channel. <P ID="signature">______________

The "fine tuning" with DTV is more in making sure your antenna is pointed in the right direction. That's been my experience, at least. Since most of the Boston DTV stations are on the same antenna (Route 128 Needham, where WBZ, WGBH/WGBX and WCVB are together) or in the same area (WHDH is in Newton a mile or so away) it's not a big problem for me. Other cities may have different setups.

"128" is really a part of I-95 around Boston, for those not from New England. Anyways, you'd hate the setup in greater Hartford. Better invest in an omnidirectional antenna here! CBS, UNI and PBS come from Avon Mountain on the Avon/West Hartford line. ABC and UPN come from Madmere Mountain in Hamden. WB, NBC and FOX come from Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington. I/PAX comes from Montville near New London. (The above refers to the digital tower sites, as analog WB on channel 20 comes from just south of Waterbury.)
