Whatever happened to Giles Threadgold? on RKO

I used to tune in for Giles (spelling?) What a funny (word for illegitimate child)

Is the rumor true that he said on the air that Howie walked his second wife down the isle prego or
ready to pop with child or something and Howie got rid of him?

Boy, if that's true, HC can dish it out but he can't take it!

Is the old curmudgeon still alive? Why isn't he on VB's Fox 25 show?

Giles is still "alive". I think they still use his affiliate countdown-

You would hear it on WXTK on occaision After the news.

Haven`t listened to HLC. lately----Too many death pools.

That was some great radio, for example "car-boating" until O&A came to town.

If I recall correctly, Giles had his own show on the Cape. Some AM programmer down there heard him burpin' and blatherin' on Howie's show and gave him a slot. I then heard that Giles soon lost the show after going after some pregnant teenage girl on the air. Does anyone recall this happening or am I just dreaming?

Giles sounded shatfaced when he was on HC's show.

So, is Giles still coming down to breakfast, or not? "Eye" would like to know! Apologies to Norma!

Wait - Colonel WhatsHisName, who subs for Howie also sounds like he's had a few "cold teas" before airtime!

Wonder if Johnson & Johnson, er, Jason & Julie have explored "DK (cop-talk for "drunk") Radio" as a possible format? Be a Finneran-beater, fer shure!

Lots of fellow tipplers out there who could relate - many 25-54 hahaha! Could be compelling listening -
"pre-intervention" lifestyle talk, brought to you by "hey neighbor, have a 'Gansett!!"

C-ya at Foley's!!!!!!!

Giles E. Threadgold of Falmouth was "retired", or retired himself, a few years back. Howie said his wife didn't want him coming up to Boston all the time (driving? taking a bus?). He went well, in a State where another drunken old codger from the Cape seems to get re-elected every six years...
The Col. sounds different when he's on other shows (O'Reilly, Doyle). He and Howie get a little silly
(hey! Fried clam man! Put away that Ann Coulter doll...)

I do not believe Giles passed on...we would have heard about it on Howie's show, etc. Giles is my dad's
middle name btw.

Giles was on a Boch owned FM down there as a morning sidekick, arriving after the beanut buter incident.

that is explained here: http://72.166.46.24//archive/features/97/10/16/ERNIE_BOCH.html

Ernie Jr. has since sold the stations to Quantum.

(as a side note I met Ernie Jr. the other night at the Brad Delp tribute concert. He was very pleasant, we talked about his music foundation and his band.)

Quick Google of "Giles Threadgold" shows affiliations with BU sports and Wood's Hole Oceanographic Institute. No obits found.

I know he was a hockey ref or something, but the WHOI hit must be a son.

After reading the Dan Kennedy piece, it's clear that Giles wasn't involved in the teen preggo incident.

I think the Dad is Giles E., son is Giles K. (both phone book and yahoo people search turn up Giles Sr.
who is listed in E. Falmouth.

Giles is still alive and living on the Cape. I asked Howie about him at the WRKO 25 th birthday party. He was part of the morning show on WXTK for a short while.

Howie actually didn't care much for Giles. Giles was a good friend on the then GM and he was brought in to read some sports on Howie's show. He would read the scores out of the USA Today and read the Boston scores where ever they were listed in the paper instead of first. He was used as sort of a Larry Bud Melman on the show.

They did get a running joke going about Giles' drinking--he probably was just being silly and they made
jokes about him poss. being drunk (cue sound effect of a drink being poured). They got Giles to say,
"My name is Giles and I'm an alcoholic" and they used that bit too. Giles' voice still appears just before
they go back into the show, on bits intended as a warning to affiliates: "All right stations, coming up in a few
seconds we have Howie Carr on the Howie Carr Radio Network!" (or even a liner used by stations on the air
"You're listening to Howie Carr on the Howie Carr Radio Network" etc.

One memorable show happened when Giles happened to be there on a Friday and the news broke around 3 pm
that Clinton's Surgeon General, Jocelyn Elders, was resigning after comments she made such as "masturbation
is perhaps something that ought to be taught (in schools)". Giles joined in on a bunch of jokes about the
subject.
