Whatever happened to WREV and WFRC?

When I was a kid these were the stations I listened to. Last I heard WREV was Spanish, then it was back to English, then it was Spanish again simulcasting WYSR.

I know WFRC became WRNC but it hasn't been around in years.

I used to listen to Earl Burton do the weather on both stations. Imagine, a small local station having its own meteorologist. I think I still have recordings of him but don't know how to get them online. I just loved to play with my father's tape recorder at that time in my life.

I grew up in Reidsville - listening to Earl was a trip - he was as corney as Frank Deal...

He nailed Frank one winter when we got a massive snow storm one weekend. Earl recorded Frank's forecasts for some reason and he did a before and after comparison that was a BLAST!!!!

Frank indicated on Friday that it was going to be a great weekend, no precip, just cool. It snowed something like 17 inches that weekend. On Monday, Frank said something to the order of "remember when I said we might get a little precipitation". Earl had his NO PRECIP audio from Friday and played back his Monday forecast to the great pleasure of all of us that listened to Earl.

Reidsville also had 102.1 - WREV-FM as well, you know it today as 102 JAMZ. No local radio; but at least they have their own TV station.

Is WFRC the same as WRNC was?
I drove by the old WRNC 1600 building up on a hill across from a junk yard on a highway up there a bunch of times. It had an ABC ball logo on the outside of the building too.
I stopped by one time and poked around outside like 10 years ago, there was just a little bit of junk in there,

Several months ago, the WREV folks had a reunion. I was asked to document it on video, and went a step further and did a package for Star News. Take a look... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDCgyhf-eys .

They've invited me to their next reunion and promised me a less noisy environment in which to interview.

Later...
