Whatever happened to...?

While I'm not going to complain about WKNR, (though there is reason to), I was wondering...

What ever happened to Clear Channnel's plan to bring a 50k watt gorilla from Wheeling, and turn it into a sports station to go hand in hand with WTAM?

I believe it was AM 1170 that would become W??? serving Stow/Cleveland/Akron.

Voluntarily killed by CC last year, maybe September or so. Affected by Wheeling/SE Ohio outrage, maybe?

Anyway, it's dead, so we're stuck with Salem's thing.

They are just trying drum up state money for renovation.

Of course Clear Channel Entertainment is now LiveView Inc. or something like that--spun off from the mother ship.

The Death of the WWVA Move

Heck, that rumor's been out there for a few months. I even touched on it You Know Where after a trip through the area. The former WWVA host now on the competitor to that station in afternoon drive has talked about it on the air for some time now.

As far as WWVA goes, the first reply is correct...Clear Channel withdrew the proposal to move WWVA to a COL of Stow, with a proposed transmitter facility in Lorain County's Columbia Township (just west of the Lorain/Cuyahoga County line, not far from Strongsville). The proposed facility would have shot that 50,000 watts directly over greater Cleveland and Akron and would, presumably, have been run out of CC's World Domination HQ in Independence.

The sports format stuff...that was mostly speculation by us, based on what'd seem a likely reason to move a 50,000 watt station into the Cleveland market. It was basically educated guessing.

No matter - it's all done now. WWVA isn't moving.

Both TV stations and the local paper have been doing storeis on it this week. It seams 8 people were let go Wednesday during the big shake up. You can check the local TV station or newspaper websites for the new story regarding the Capitol.
