Whatever happened to.....

There was an announcer in the early-mid 60's named Wally King on WNEW AM. Does anyone know whatever became of him....where did he go, etc.?

I'm in radio in Maine and used to listen to him and Ted Brown and the others. Great station then, but lost track of Wally. Thanks for any help.

Don't know what ever became of Wally King, but I do recall him having a regular shift on WNEW weeknights, 8 PM - 11 PM during the early to mid 60s. He also appeared on That Was The Week That Was, NBC-TVs weekly satire making fun of the previous week's news events. :)

I remember Wally King. Though I was just a teenage kid in the 60s I loved WNEW. They all had great voices and smooth, cool personnae. Living in Vermont, to me'NEW was the great station in the sky from mighty New York.

You might want to e-mail Dick Summer, he hosted Milkman's Matinee and might know Wally's whereabouts. Just google him. He'll respond to your query...great guy.

Wally had a couple of great lines--"I'm Wally King and glad to be.....", or something very similar. And after doing a time check he would say-".....and that's the latest it's ever been."

I heard he went to Cleveland but never was able to find out where he is now, or even if he is still with us.

Nice to hear from others who enjoyed the great 'eleven-three-oh in New York'.

In 1962, WNEW was estimated to be worth $25MM. Bloomberg purchased the station in 1992 for $13MM, nearly half of what it was worth three decades earlier. Sad to see the fall of such an iconic radio station. :(
