whatever happened to...

Bob Kristof here. I followed Mavis at 10AM, hosting a program called Centerpiece. It was nice working with her. Mavis replaced the British Gil Barrington, the original morning host. I last talked to her in 1993 when she was working at WAMO. I don't know where she is today.

She also did news briefs for WPGH-TV back in the late 70s and early 80s. I remembered they used the intro to "Teenage Wasteland" as the news theme.

Ken,

Later Mavis was a "booth announcer" (for a very short while, in 1970-1971?) at WIIC-TV.
That's back in the days where you sat around waiting to announce live continuity.

I was visiting a friend at WTAE-TV many years ago when Henry DaBecco was doing this job there.
There was a station break. He watched his monitor and then said "WTAE-TV Pittsburgh", after which he went back to reading the Post-Gazette. Things have changed! Have fun while you can. I was glad that I was able to do those things back then. I couldn't possibly do that today. It is a different world.

Gotta love ol' Handsome Henry! Rest in peace, brother.
