Whatever happened toZ100'S Mr Leonard?

Mr. Leonard - aka John Rio is currently working for the ABC music formats in Dallas, Texas. He is using the airname Big John Calhoun and doing mornings on their country format.

The other day, I was listening to an aircheck of the now-defunct Eagle 106 in Philadelphia circa 1992, when I heard a commercial for the John Lander "Nut Hut" morning show. In the spot I heard someone who sounded like... Mr. Leonard. Of course, I've known him to be on Z-100's Morning Zoo around that time! Was he doing two shows at once?

Yes - and possibly more. I'm not sure, but I think he also was phoning into WRBQ's Q-Morning Zoo with Cleveland Wheeler, where Scott Shannon was before he came to NY.

I worked with John Rio in Texas, indirectly....no, not DEL RIO...(ha).
He was on The Wolf KPLX-FM...country...while I was across the hall at KLIF-AM the talk station.

John came in often to see ME and HILARIE Barsky (now-a-days on XM doing "Good Morning America--Radio") when he wasn't needed to do a live bit...

The WOLF was the BIGGEST station in town at the time...yet, I think he did some fill-in work for ME on KLIF when my dad passed away in NJ...I think he did a few days on KLIF (570...NOT the 1190 frequency that is legendary down yonder.)

I digress...

I had never MET him prior to going to Dallas, but I had obviously heard the character on Z100 with Shannon. He's a talented guy...and very funny...sort of in the same sense that Al Rosenberg was/is funny when he worked for Imus/Stern/Reynolds at WNNNBC. He makes me laugh to this day...Rosenberg that is. Lots of stream of consciousness there, huh...

BE BIG
Jay
