Whatever Weekends on Star

Star 100.7 has had 4 whatever weekends in a row. Does anyone think this could be a sign of JACK FM coming to 100.7 soon?

Could be. Then again, maybe not.

I'm waiting to see if Socrates calls that "pontificating".

Similarly situated Q104 in Cleveland has been doing "whatever" weekends for few months now. No sign of Jack in sight there, but there's always the chance.

Remember, only Infinity has a National VP/Prog for Jack formats. Question is, in Pittsburgh and Cleveland--is Jack more successful sales wise than Hot AC?

Of course, we over on the Cleveland board have been known to propose outrageous ideas for format changes (my favorite was when two of us had Q014 changing back to easy listening!!)

More likely it's an attempt to keep anyone else from going in that direction.... the format makes less of a splash if it's just a full-time version of something that was already available in the market.<P ID="signature">______________

It's been long said that people of this market hold onto heritage longer than most, but it's been recently disproven by the successes of 104.7 and K-Rock. It seems that maybe old, stale modus operandis are finally being seen for what they are and people here REALLY do want a change. Star will probably run these weekends until at least the end of month, see what the Arbs reveal, and maybe re-run it in the Fall ratings period.
As far as flipping a station full-time, there's a lot to decide that on. Some of you have suggested K-Rock when Stern leaves. Well, that's putting the cart before the horse. Does anyone know what will replace Stern on a national level? If we don't know that, how can we accurately predict what will become of K-Rock. I personally beleive that Star will continue to do this for 2 reasons..... 1) it gives Infinity more ammo IF they decide to do a JACK here.....and 2) it parallels LiteRock's "Replay Weekends." These 2 stations are closer to each other than the 2 of them to WSHH, because WSHH plays older genre AC, while Star and LiteRock prefer music for younger demos. And with Star leading Lite in the ratings, a format flip of Star, especially now, is highly unlikely.

K-Rock successful? I don't think so. Far from it!

Also, for Realist: I don't think Socrates would say anything of the kind that Star would flip, as he works there. He'll spin it any way which, just so he has us believe it is not going in that direction.

Mr. Music

Do you really give me so little credit? Regardless of where I do or do not work, do you think I am merely some mindless automaton, some disinformation tool owned by a given station? Meaning, do you think that *if* I worked at Star, I would be incapable of rendering my own opinion about Jack or Hot AC? Please. My opinion is my opinion no matter who writes my check.

Additionally, I don't have business cards, an office, or a title. I'm just as much a working stiff as the rest of you. It's not my job to spin or have you believe anything. As for my opinion on this subject, as I have stated previously and my position has not changed, I think 93.7 should go Jack as soon as Howard leaves. Or sooner. I think the fact that WRRK didn't go Jack was and is surprising. There you have it. As for Star, let it keep doing what its doing as long as the money train lasts, I agree with an above poster, why fix what ain't broke? If there is to be any Infinity-Jack frequency, it should be 93.7. There is no shortage of rock in Pittsburgh.

Socrates,

Thanks for proving my point, Jack!

For what it's worth, I agree with you. I think 93.7 will do it once Howard is gone.

I've heard from Infinity sources elsewhere that there will be VERY few additional JACK stations, only in markets where there are gaping holes and it has a chance to be a big splash.

Star, Lite, and 3WS already play too much of what JAACK would do.

I say it doesn't happen here.

I sincerely hope JACK is better than the lame "Whatever Weekend." Maybe I didn't listen long enough, but WW didn't sound much different than what 100.7 plays all the time.
