What's 790 going to do?

It precedes my time in Atlanta, but I was told the 970 transmitter site was located off Moreland Ave on the hill just south of I-20. It's to the left if you're going south.
 
As far as how the Dickeys got hold of 680, I believe their dad's company, Midwestern Broadcasting, acquired the station out of receivership. It had been owned by Charles Smithgall.
