What's better for ratings?

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since it's a fact that the price of gas is insanely high, no matter where you are in North America, I just thought I'd ask this board:

What's BETTER for ratings at a radio station?
The chance to win a brand new Hybrid car?
OR
A deep discount gas day for ALL the listeners?...sponsored by the radio station.
(anything from free gas, to gas that matches the frequency...like, say, 101.1 a gallon, if the frequency is 101.1...or something like that)

I don't know of any way to prove which is better. All I can offer is my opinion.
Put me down for a chance at the free hybrid. Cheap gas promotions have become so commonplace it's doubtful if even the people filling up attribute it to any radio station let alone the RIGHT radio station.

Also, those caught up in the associated traffic jam are not thinking anything good about your radio station if they are thinking anything about it at all.

Also, hybrid cars are very cool right now. If there's anything most radio stations can use right now, it's a hipness infusion.

That's an easy one--go with the discounted gas.

Why don't you ask yo' mama for a cute closing signature?

I vote for the car.
Gas giveaway gets you two days of PR.
You can spread a car giveaway over ten weeks. Each day, one lucky listener gets a key. At the end of the ten weeks, you hold a promotion where people try their keys until one works.
Ten weeks (almost a whole ratings period) of promotion instead of just one or two days.
A side note: Consolation prizes should go to the other key holders so they don't feel they came away completely empty handed.

Like a $25 gas card.

I like the gas station idea better though. You could do it once every weekend at a new gas station and give clues all week to find the station.
______________

I actually forgot about gift certificates.
I was focused on the "Secrect location" idea at time of posting.
It's actually funny when the morning team of a station says "No...we were told not to give out the secret free gas(or cheap gas) location until 7:15" and they give it out shortly after 6am anyway, saying "OH, we are SO fired!" (the pd ofcorse already gave them the go ahead to mention the location shortly after 6, I would expect.)

Gift cards are indeed good too. There's many diffrent ways to go about giving them away...and the Hybrid car over a ten week period can be done at the same time.
Thank-you.
I now believe both Hybrid givaway, and gift card giveaway can be done durring the same promotion period.
Wether or not a radio station would still want to have a morning thrown in where people are told to go to a certain gas station, is something, I guess, may or may not ever happen again.
