WHAT'S GOING ON AT CITADEL?

Anybody know what the timeline is at Citadel? Have they moved in, yet? I'm wondering if they'll do something about that morning show on B-98.5? Does anyone know if any changes have started happening? Thanks.

I recently got word from Dave Montgomery, former technician of KAAY "back in the day", informing me of an article on Sept. 16 that Cumulus indeed had acquired Citadel....we're thinking KAAY will sink further and further into obscurity.... :(

Well as Citadel/Cumulus.. KIPR playlist has been choked! The play list has gone from too big to much too little. It sounds as if all songs are on repeat and NO recurrents worth mentioning. The playlist did need some tinkering but what it has really exposed is that the station has not added some key songs in the past that were really hot because the PD did not feel the need to add them. I'm sure I have a good idea as to why he did not add them. Anyways, they have no recurrents to play because they had way to many garbage songs in there instead and they had to remove them from the playlist. In addition, I can see Dr. Feelgood, the mixshow dj quitting because he NEVER plays familiar songs. They are usually ghetto thug classics which should have been stopped long ago. He will not conform to the strict playlist.

Honestly, KAAY to fall any further would be to go completely off the air. The other evening, I tuned my ham radio transceiver on the AM BC band and KAAY was overwhelmed by IBOC interference from KRLD and WTAM at my home near Star City. Even if KAAY could be clearly heard at night (which it isn't here these days), the programming is atrocious and ranks right up there with the swill that KMTL and KLRG pukes out.

AM Radio is dying as a whole nationwide but in Arkansas its on a fast ride toward the end. KAAY's slow painful decent into a coma is a prime example of a once great radio station reduced by a combination of gospel-huxter broadcasters and greedy corporate owners to obscurity.

I am afraid this is soon going to happen to KLAL as well. Hopefully Jan Jefferies will keep his hands off and not turn Alice into a KRBE/Houston or Q100/Atlanta clone.

I had heard that Cumulus had everyone "sign out" of their non-competes which would seem to indicate: "You're free to look around." I'm afraid there will be many DJ's and newscasters on the loose. What's up with DC being late to his show on 107.7 and them talking about it on the air? Jeez. Someone please tell them that they are being scrutinized by the new owner. I think they played a re-run of one of Heather and DC's shows this morning. Uh Oh. And can Jeff and Lisa be feeling secure on B-98.5? Hmmm. I wonder if local talking heads like Elswick will be needed. If you are going to own almost 20 stations statewide, surely they'll simulcast some programs here and there to save a little dough. Cumulus appears to be very frugal. Sounds like fun.

I have also noticed that Shawn Arnell of The Sports Animal/AM 920's "Shawn & Wally" is no longer on during the entire 3 hour program like he used to. Shawn used to be there for all 3 hours, now he is now longer there past 6:00. He is often MIA lately during the first hour, too.
