What's going on at KMEL?

The management stricken by the economic downturn? This was the people's station? Current ratings are now at 2.8, underperforming their rival KYLD. Their calendar is what stuck at 1993-1999. According to their playlist.

Deejay playing this all the time.
*Aaliyah-Are you that somebody....more of that baby giggle.
*Amerie-Good looking, Why can't you fall in love?
*Biggie-More Money, more problems in the economy.
*BTNH-1995 classics, Where's Uni5?
*Deborah Cox-Nobody suppose to be here, you don't belong here!
*Erkyah Badu-Go and miss that bus.
*R. Kelly-Start the ignition, don't let your friend drive drunk.
*Sunshine Anderson-Look who got her R&B album ratings down.
*2Pac-More Makaveli? What happen to his original songs.
*3x Krazy-Duo already split.
*Usher-Your lady left.
*Nas, Lauren Hill and Geto Boys-Lot less East/South Coast rap from them.

Deejay need play more of Alicia Keys, Busta Rhymes, Drake, DMX, Eminem, Federation, Kesha, Lil' Wayne, Ludacris, The Game, Jay-Z, Nelly, Plies and T-Pain.

I agree, even though its the west coast's only TRUE hip-hop station, they should stop repeating the throwbacks. But why should they play more Kesha? She doesn't belong on a hardcore hip-hop station, I don't see the almighty Hot 97 NY playing her.

Kesha, this young lady is a reason that CHR is boosting. Kanye West and Young Jeezy. Two rappers who have less airplay.
No way in hell will KMEL play Kesha. They are an urban station and have too much history to just change up and go the easy route and play pop songs. What they need to do instead is demote Big Von from his music director spot and hire someone that will add more bay and west coast songs to their playlist. Also, they need to have the holiday mixes again, along with more bay and west coast songs, and hip-hop/R&B classics in their rotation instead of Young Money and southern rap. Then, their ratings will go back to where they were a few years ago before they went south. But KMEL is still the most decent station in Cali, after KDAY.

Big Von, what was he thinking bringing in a pornstar. My chick bad, send her away the little kids are listening in the afternoon. KMEL first attempt to take a shortcut.

KMEL is pretty much an urban contemporary, not a mainstream urban, CHR, or Rhythmic CHR/crossover (as it was in the past). It's the only station west of the Rockies that is an actual urban station that targets the 18-40 demographic rather than an urban AC (which targets 25-54). I agree that they need to play more West Coast classics, but the majority of their current playlist sounds alright to me...
