What's going on at THE LINK?

Mid-day host, Kelly McKay let it be known weeks ago that she had turned in her resignation effective in December. Word is she's going to pursue her voiceover career full-time.

Now, Allaccess.com tells us that Program Director, Anthony Michaels, 12 year employee of the station, 3 as PD, is exiting THE LINK to seek his next career opportunity. Predictably, VP/Market Manager, Rick Feinblatt, thanks Anthony for his contributions at WLNK and wishes him well in the future.

Isn't Feinblatt's phrasing very much the language that managers/companies usually use when they dismiss someone?

The station will begin a search for it's new PD immediately.

Looks like they are trying to improve ratings and demographics by making changes. But Bob and Sheri and Matt and Ramona should be safe. But possibly changes in music playlist may be coming. Are they trying to be AC or become more Hot AC? Recently they have been "The best of the 80's, 90's and today." And I guess their main competition may be 102.9 and 104.7, so they may try to differentiate themselves somehow.

Seems like they need to identify what their core listeners really want and expand out from there. Right now they're already different from the other 2 stations since they have a personality approach in morning and afternoon drive. I wish them well, I think they have the right idea.

Should never have dismantled the station after Neal Sharpe left (although, the dismantling of his baby is why he left to begin with). Mornings and afternoons are their crown jewels and they barely let the folks talk anymore.

I like their talk personalities, but it does seem as if they need to tweak their music playlist. But I am sorry they toned down some of the talk, as I would like to see them bring back Pam Stone.

Darla ("Don't Call Me 'Carla'") Thomas is walking the dog across the street, leaving iHeart and joining Greater Media. No U-Haul required. http://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n30174

The question is, what changes are forthcoming and how soon will they be implemented?

Although some of the songs are soft tunes from the 80s, which just sound strange, I heard one that clearly establishes that this is still a Hot AC. I can't remember the lyrics I heard now, but please don't tell me that is a song that can be played on an AC.

Something like "it doesn't matter" ends the song in question.

I like the station and listen often. Although you are all right. It is very difficult to tell if they are AC, or hot AC. They seem to keep on going back-and-forth. I noticed some time over the past week though they dropped the 80s from their motto and are now using the motto 90s to now. That makes a lot more sense. It differentiates themselves from the other two stations. And makes them some more hot AC.

Never liked their music but always liked the people on the air. That's just due to my oddball musical taste.

Late last year, a low power station WXRU began broadcasting on the 107.9 frequency from Piedmont, SC. Creating interference with WLNK in parts of Greenville County, SC. Although GVL, SC is not a primary market for WLNK, the FCC should not have allowed this, as Greenville County is included inside the circular radius of fringe coverage on the FCC maps. Fortunately I still get good reception at home, including the HD Radio signal. But in the car, there is bad interference in certain areas, as both WXRU and WLNK interfere with each other. WXRU does not have a good clear signal on 107.9 due to interference from WLNK, which is also disrupted. Not good for either station. WLNK should petition the FCC to cancel the broadcast permit for WXRU and make WXRU move to another frequency. But interestingly the WLNK-HD signal hangs on pretty good, but when it drops out you will get the analog signal from WXRU. Then the analog WLNK comes in spotty again until WLNK-HD locks back on. WLNK had seemed to improve their signal, but then WXRU came on the air back in late November, with an old school R&B type format. It would be better for both stations if WXRU would change frequencies.

WLNK music mix has gotten better recently, with the 90's to Now. And Bob and Sheri are still entertaining in the morning. Now if the interference issue could just be corrected in Greenville, SC. Last I heard low power WXRU was seeking a different frequency to give them a better signal. We shall see.

I was going to mention to "90s to Now". I never heard that on-air, but there was a billboard inside Concord Mills. Yes, I said inside. Apparently a store closed and they had to put something there.

Despite variations in musical format, they have a consistently strong performing morning show with Bob and Sheri, which is one of the main reasons I listen to WLNK. As well as Matt and Ramona. Now if they could just resolve their local interference issue in Greenville, SC for when I am in the car. But I know I am just beyond their target market, and that is not a primary concern anymore. Signal is strong in Spartanburg, but issues with the interference from a low power station in Greenville.
