What's Going On At WALX In Selma?

For the past few days, I've been reading and hearing about something new and exciting is coming to Lazer 101, Monday February 19th.

Inquiring minds want to know, what could this new and exciting thing be?

Does this have something to do with that construction permit they have to change a city of license from Selma to Orrville? I don't think there is any actual physical change, just a COL.

Are they still playing that "whatever jukebox" format of music? Or, as the kids these days would call it, the "Jack FM format". Guess lil' Lazer 101 was ahead of its time!

might be something more to it. I can't see why the station would make an announcement such as that just because the COL was changing. Your average listener probably wouldn't know or care, anyhow, if the COL changed, unless there's going to be something that will benefit them, a stronger signal, e.g., and AFAIK, there isn't going to be any xmtr move and/or signal change which goes along with that CP. Somebody mentioned on this board before about the possibility of WALX moving to the 107.9 frequency which is going to be licensed to Shorter (outside of Montgomery). Could that be what's up their sleeves, a swapping of frequencies for WJAM and WALX?

That is a rather interesting, and strange, mix of music they play on 'ALX. I remember listening to them as a kid, even when the station was still broadcasting as a Class A. :)

Until the planets change directions, WALX will always be a "Jack FM' type of station. They were Jack, when Jack wasn't cool or acceptable.

They do have a wide mix of music, which covers many decades and performers.

They've been doing this since 1981 and have had major success so far.

I worked there...waaaaay back...when it was "Stereo 101, WALX" and was "Beautiful and Relaxing." While I was there they bought the dark 1340 frequency and lit that up with WMRK as a CHR. I left for 4 years, then came back as weekend fill-in for a while. At that point, WALX was playing more or less the format it has now and WMRK was a pretty oldies intensive AC with Larry King/Jim Bohannon overnights.
