What's going on at WROR

Why did Kevin reding leave afternoon drive? He is much better than Paul Perry who is on now. Is Stella permanent at 7-11pm?

Does it really matter who is reading the promos for Loren and Wally in the afternoon? ::)

I work second shift and we listen to ROR quite frequently. Cant say I'm thrilled with Paul Perry but you're right. I dont listen to ROR in the morning and the promos are way too much.

Have you listened? Paul is doing a bit more than "reading liners promoting L&W!"

He's doing a lot of the fun and games he was doing over at Oldies, but without the sidekicks. Quite a bit of listener interaction stuff, at least that's what I've heard in the times that I've tuned in. Though not his biggest fan, he is doing something other than just liners. Never heard Redding, so I can't comment on him.

Kevin's contract wasnt renewed (for afternoon drive anyway) and has been relegated to "weekend warrior" status.

Kim Collins is the regular 7pm-midnight personality. Kim started at WROR a couple of years ago as a weekend warrior and fillin. She was then given the task of holding down afternoon drive after Tai was fired and until WROR found a replacement for Tai (which turned out to be Kevin Redding). Kim eventually took over 9pm-midnight after Kristen Lessard (who, I THINK, came over from WBOS) left. Then, after WROR dropped the 7pm-9pm "Best of Loren and Wally", Kim's shift increased to 7pm-midnight. She has filled in on just about every WROR shift except for, as far as I know, morning drive and overnights.

Why do you think ROR made a change in the afternoon? If they were doing well... I doubt they would have made any change. What station do you think they're afraid of?

They weren't doing well in afternoons. Most of their ratings have been with Loren & Wally in the mornings, who do quite well, and then they drop way off. I don't know if it was so much that they're "afraid" of anyone else, I think they're just trying to improve their mediocre numbers in the afternoon.

I don't think that was due to any lack of talent on the part of Kevin Redding. It sounds more like it was because after L&W in the mornings, they weren't letting anyone else show hardly any personality.

It sounds like with hiring Perry, they decided to let their afternoon DJ do more than just liners and to be interactive with the audience and show some personality, and it sounds like Paul is giving it his best effort. I think he's sounding better than he did when he was on 103.

I don't understand why they waited until hiring Perry to allow the afternoon DJ to actually be a personality. I guess maybe they figure that because he has a little heritage and recognition in the market, that he can have a little more freedom on the air.

I'm guessing you're right. They went for name recognition. If someone with a history in Boston weren't available then Redding would still be there as he didn't do a bad job.Neither does Paul Perry but they're mistaken if they feel listeners will flock to a station in dayparts they never listened to before because they changed djs.If you listen to Loren and Wally but not the rest of the day then you're obviously not really into WROR's format and a staff change won't help much. The old Star felt that by hiring well known djs they would win but they neglected to realize no one wanted to hear the music.

What can you say about afternoon drive when WEEI still pulls in big ratings for that god awful 3-7p show.

Hope Kim Collins is back soon I really enjoy her on the evening shift.

WODS 103.3 plays much of the same music as WROR, but they do it with more personality and they beat them for the daypart ratings after morning drive. Loren & Wally in the mornings has been WROR's only real personality show, and they beat WODS in the mornings. Sounds like WROR is finally trying to add some personality to their afternoon format.

Thats just it. Thats why I switched from Oldies 103 to 'ROR in the afternoon. I want music and not listeners calling in.

Then put The Big Chill 'Soundtrack' in your CD player or go with Satellite. Radio's only hope is to grow some personality.

Or, listen to WROR's HD-2 channel. All automated 70's hits, with only an occasional recorded liner.

Sometimes it's nice to have a live or "semi-live" personality to drive home with?

The spot clusters are what usually KILLS listeners. The more crap that's crammed into a stopset often determines the "tune-out" factor! ::)

With all this talk about WROR here, I decided to check out Perry's show yesterday.
He's one attrocious jock. He was taking a call from some an old lady requesting a tune while she was in her bathroom doing only god knows what. It was one awful piece of radio.
I don't know where they dragged this guy out of, but he's a hundred times worse than Finneran, Severin, Fred Smerlas and Matt Siegal combined.

I went back to 1030.
