What's going on at WTVN????

Last week Joel Riley disappeared. I didn't hear him say anything about vacation, but on Monday Carla Wren was filling in. Later in the day, Corby is gone and Dirk (may be a nice guy but can't stand his sound) Thompson was filling in. After a couple of days Dirk is gone and Matt McCoy is filling in for him. Yesterday Joel was back, sounding somewhat frazzeld. At one point when discussing the pronouciation of the name Fuchs he mispronounced it in a very bad way. Today he is gone again. What's with the musical chair thing?

Nothing is going on, and obviously you wern't listening or you would have known that Corby and Joel were both on vacation. Dirk was filling in for Corby, but it was quite obviously from the first day he was having voice issues, and finally lost his voice, so then Matt McCoy took over for the rest of the time. As for Joel, maybe something is going on in his life, and that's why he sounded that way and why he is gone. August is vacation time for radio since it's before the Fall Book. Joe Boxer on WCOL is on vacation this week as well.

There are a couple of hours a day when I do something else.

I listened to Joel for a few minutes yesterday. He said he was very sick. Today, Carla was filling in for
him today. Sounds like he is still very ill.

Carla made some mention of Joel having walking pneumonia this morning. he was supposed to have been back Monday same as Corby but didn't make it back til Tuesday or Wednesday.

I work over 40 hours a week and I listen to WTVN while at work. That's how I know.

Vacation time from WTVN is the worst, the fill ins are D grade radio talkers.
I never tune in during that train wreck.
(Glenn Beck is on the talk FM channel)

A few years ago they keep running "the Best of Corby"
I heard the same show 4 times about favorite bars, including the one lady's attempt to visit "The Button" in Fort Lauderdale.

In hind site it would be far better to hear that single "Best of Show" again vs. Dirk.

Let's see who could have filled in instead...

Steve Cannon
Curt Boster
Sterling

No, wait, they were all fired.

The train wreck started a long time ago.

Don't forget about 'Doc' Thompson.

How about Chuck Gillespie?
'TVN needs to pink slip Dirk and Carla, and do a search for actual air talent.

No, wait, they work virtually for free, so clear channel won't do anything.

In all fairness, Carla is getting better. I really used to HATE hearing her, but lately her content has been pretty daggone strong. The whole first name only thing is a little annoying but I guess if it's good enough for Charro...

Dirk...sorry, I think his content is good and when I bother to listen, we are usually on the same philosophical page but I just can't stand the sound of his voice. There was a time when radio people had to SOUND like radio people but the times they are changin'. Maybe this IS good radio and I am a dinosaur.

Is there really an appeal to the ramblings of an ignorant frat boy known as Dirk Thompson? Or the ex-junkie paranoid rants of Carla. They need to get better talkers or replaced them with the following:

Free Talk Live weekend show

Alex Jones Best Of or his weekend show.

Good news Joel Riley fans!
Apparently his day to work this month is tomorrow.
Enjoy. ;D

Long time lurker - first time poster.

I've got to agree Carla used to be HORRIBLE to listen to back in the day.
She's actually decent now. If I were Riley - I wouldn't take as much time off as he does. Job security. I'm a fan of his, but I think he's too inside and a little too smarmy sounding. If I remember correctly he used to be in management at WTVN. At least he can fall back on that if he gets replaced.

I’ve got to agree that the Riley show has issues. I miss Beck! If it weren’t for office politics I’d just switch the station from 9:00 to Noon and enjoy both the FM clarity and the presence of an actual format and point. Joel’s just another hack on the OSU payroll as far as I can tell.

Did anyone notice that he spent the toady’s show talking about how he wanted input and opinions from the audience re: his Tuesday devotional to all things OSU related, and then at the end wrapped the show with an announcement that the calls and e-mail had reaffirmed for him that he was right to focus on the quarterback and the hooker?

I don’t think I was hearing the same calls and e-mails…

Carla’s fill in time was infinitely better than Riley’s show has ever been. As far as I can tell, there is little to set Joel apart from the rest of the line up, and nothing being said that I can’t hear on any of a dozen other stations.

Joel has been at WTVN for a very long time. I'm sure he's accrued a decent amount of vacation. And my bet is that the PD won't let them take time off during the Spring and Fall books. Hence the excessive amount of vacation time this summer. What's the big deal?

I think Joel has a very entertaining show. I listen most every day.

I used to he a heavy listener of Joel, then one day I hit the wall and get tired of his "Shtick".

I turned it off and I realized that I didn't miss it.
Without him am no worse off, in fact now that I listen to instrumentals at work my productivity has gone way up.

Smarmy is a great way to describe him! Thanks for nailing that down.

Also, Blackwatch; screw office politics do the right thing
