What's going on in small town radio?

Just thought I would ask , has anyone heard a small town station doing any local talk or community type shows anymore. A few that I am aware of might be WYXI in Athens, WEMB Erwin, WGRV Greenville. Any others or any comments. Whats going on with all the other stations in small towns? I was on vacation to a small W. North Carolina town and it's stations format was oldies which was good because it is mainly a tourist town where older families visit alot. But the station was nowhere to be seen during the 4th of July celebration and other festivities. I hope other towns have better representation. Lets hear from the small town people.

Here in McMinnville, Oregon we have family owned KLYC. Licenced to McMinnville. The transmitter and studio are really here! We just had July 4, A local fundraiser TurkeyRama, Yamhill County Fair, Newberg Old Fashion Days. All big Yamhill County events. KLYC was there, with live remotes and interviews with the local folk enjoying the festivities!
Their music format is 60's and 70's oldies with Adult Contemporary songs during the workday.
We listen to them at the office, since their local 1000 watt AM signal penetrates the walls and the computers.
Sorry, they prefer to not have a website or internet presence!
