What's going on w/KPHE-LD- 44.2? RetroTV gone?

Can't even search FCC site, says no record of the station or even the FCC id, comes back empty (probably an error on FCC side) - 44.2 has been b-casting Telemax on both 44.1 and 44.2. Online search results for Lotus TV only bring me old news... anyone have a clue? Dhett where ARE you... :) :) and do you have any scoops on what is going on? I may send an email to the KPHE people, I wonder if I'll even get an answer.

I think this is more of a "programming the sub-channel" question, rather than a facilities question.

But why did 44 drop Retro TV from 44.2? Retro is a rather low-budget operation, and runs some public domain and other crappy-looking 16mm and kinnie sources. But they do have two gems--Naked City and Route 66 (which run daily on Retro, and I think weekend overnights on MeTV...wonder how that contract was set up). Wait, three gems...I forgot about MST3K. And Naked City/Route 66 are from semi-decent 35mm sources.

44 has been switching their line-up almost daily for awhile now. 44.2 is now Telemax (Mex?) and 44.3 is REVN. 44.4 is Spanish language something (no ID).

A new update is coming...hectic schedule means they're slower to post.

In a nutshell, KPHE acquired LATV programming for 44.1, but seems to still be keeping local programming there as well. 44.2 seems to be full-time Telemax. 44.3 IDs as Direct Response TV, but local spots say it's OnTV 4U, which used to air on KPDF 41.4. 44.4 remains Live Gospel TV, 44.5 is Salud, and 44.6 remains SmartLifestyle TV.

Luken appears to be the big loser here, having lost three outlets on KPHE within the past month. Personally, of the three diginets, I'd like to see PBJ back, as my almost-8-year-old stepdaughter loved that channel.

Yes, PBJ was a great station. Now, oldiesfan's comment: [But why did 44 drop Retro TV from 44.2? The programming "quality" is purely subjective, what is crappy-looking to oldiesfan is gold to others. Personally I happen to enjoy public domain content, in fact I wouldn't mind an all public-domain content channel. Oh- and to revisit oldies comment, in my opinion I thought Route 66 was garbage then and garbage now (phony, affected 60's hipster dialogue)
I wonder why Luken has such trouble with their little channels? Anyway, I see on the FCC link Frankberry provided that there is a Construction Permit for Luken on physical channels 31 and 16. I'm unable to decipher if that means RetroTV is here, not here, not coming back, or gone forever?

Anyone watch the native American channel on 29-1? Every once in a while I turn it on, just for the novelty of it.

But the episodes were shot on location, and to see all these location shots from the early and mid-60s is the real gem. Route 66 did at least one episode in Tucson, and at least two in the Phoenix area--one in A.J. and to the east, and one in central Phoenix (with Ed Asner). Then there was the late-in-its-run episode shot in the Tampa/St. Pete area, including shots of several vehicles driving over the (original, single-span) Sunshine Skyway bridge.

Unfortunately, I am not able to pick up any of the GRBC stations - 19.1 on channel 19 in Laveen, 19.1 on channel 21 in Coolidge or 29.1 on channel 29 in Sacaton and most of the Gila River Community. What you're seeing there is First Nations Experience - kind of a FUBU for the Native American population (I think that "First Nations" is a more appropriate and accurate term, actually, as I was born here, making me a native American). GRBC was supposed to launch either channel 19 or channel 30 from a 4th location at their headquarters in the Lone Butte area near I-10 & L202 - about 3 miles from my palatial west Chandler estate - but so far, that has failed to materialize.

As for the link Frank provided, KPHE already broadcasts on RF channel 16, using virtual channel 44, and has had the construction permit for RF channel 31 for some time (trying to get out from between full power KNXV on RF 15 and KPHO on RF 17) but with the upcoming channel repack, I don't see them ever building out that CP.

I've already left a message on Luken's contact page, asking if they could get PBJ back here. I wouldn't mind seeing Retro TV either, although it's just a shell of what it was when it was RTN and was the only retro diginet out there. Maybe K38IZ Digital could pick one of them up - they picked up This TV when KTVK dropped it and already have a Luken diginet in Tuff TV. I'm sure Pitic Resturant and Lounge or Auto Action would love to have their commercials playing to a new audience. ;)

"First Nations" is the Canadian term for their Native American tribes. Was this programming produced in Canada?

Shouldn't that be "Native Canadian" tribes? :) Actually, the indigenous peoples pre-dated Canada as a dominion/nation so even that term is incorrect.

I agree that the term Native American is inappropriate to the description of indigenous people here in the USA. Everyone born on USA soil is a "native American".

And back on topic.....Retro was one of my favorites. Sort of like sitting down in front of the old black and white 19" Magnavox on a Saturday afternoon. I miss it!

The Mayas and Incas are "Native American" tribes, too... :)

If you are using "American" to mean the continent then I guess you have a point but wouldn't the correct term be "Native North American"? Gets confusing. Better to use "First Nations" or "Indigenous Peoples" I think.

That's exactly why I prefer the term, "First Nations". It's accurate, and honors the culture of those who were already here when the European settlers arrived. BTW, the First Nations peoples were also immigrants; they just got here sooner.

Channel 19.1 (RF21) blasts into Fountain Hills. Programming is FNX which I believe is produced in Canada. It's basically a host of cooking shows, outdoor shows, some political talk mostly in 720P. Local programming is very community oriented, announcements for parties, barbecues, meetings, etc. almost a cable public access channel over the air. I was concerned the Channel 19 from Laveen would block my reception of KTTU Tucson, but that has not happened. The ID slide lists the three channels, I have seen no evidence of a 4th...
