Whats going on with 1260 Newark?

Anyone seen or heard on any activity going on with this? The clock is ticking and no new activity has shown up on any of the FCC info sources. Radio stations can't be built overnight.

The new ownership has just been listed on radio-locator.com. But so far, no signal, no rurmors, nothing.

Anything new on 1260 anyone? I check the frequency a couple time a week to see if there are any developments, but none so far.

From a business view point, how long can you put all of that money out there with nothing coming in? Particularly when you only own one other station.

From what i recall, the people who bought 1260 also have 1400 WSPG in Spartanburg, SC.. which runs ESPN 1400.

i wonder what 1260 will program...

Well, it looks like 1260 is not coming on during the first week of August.

From the "1st week in August" to "in a few days." It's now the first week in September. Pretty soon, the license will be invalid. Ah, in this day of pc run radio stations, where anyone with a computer and a mike can broadcast, how long does it take to put a studio together?

While I am sorry to hear that, what does that have to do with putting a radio station on the air? My mother died on a Friday night and I was doing newscasts starting at 6 Saturday morning. Unless his mother was building the studio, I fail to see the problem.

Money is the reason I cannot understand the long dark period. After paying to buy the frequency, I would think getting the station up and running quickly would be a priority. During the last days of 560 in Philly as a B/Ez station, WEAZ-AM was simply a pc in a closet! Transmitting facilities you need, a studio you don't.

Maybe Dave, Rene, Neal, or Tom can jump in on this one. Isn't there a rule stating stations, unless grandfathered, must have separate transmission and studio facilities? If not, then you could easily set up a computer at the transmitter site and on the air you go. One example that comes to mind (of stations having their tranny and air studios in the same building) is WNTP. Altho, WFIL didn't move in at 117 Ridge until after I left, which has both on-site there in Lafayette Hill.

As long as they have a studio in the city of license, I don't think there is a problem. I have never heard of a separate facility rule.

I believe 1260 still has til February to get back on the air. Programming for the station can come from anyplace as long as the public file and a 'local' office is maintained within 25 miles of the city of license. that a local office is staffed during normal business hours and that the EAS system is maintained. The station can also operate with an STA on its current transmitting system as long as it is making an effort to locate a tower sight and the STA applicaruibns are made and paid for priot yo running out. I do hope they look into the AM on FM translator option that the FCC will be allowing, that may be its only saving grace (as well as for someone like WCHE West Chestyer, who should go back to the standards format anyway!(

The FM translator option may be the only saving grace for stations like 1260, 1550, WCHE, etc. From a purely business stand point, investing in those stations is a really bad use of money. The audience and revenue just isn't there anymore for small, basically daytime only, AM stations

Well, affairs re the owner's mother do have to be settled...

1260 was on the air in full Espanol this afternoon at about 6 pm. I did not listen long enough (or want to) to make any assessment if the programming. Now there is radio programming for New Castle County's new underbelly population. Hopefully their signal blasts into Elsmere! ;<)

Nothing on the air on 1260 Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. If what you heard was really 1260-Newark, it must have only been a test.
