What's going on with CC/Greenville?

I notice that MY, Whistle and WESC are all off the air right now (4:04PM) and have been for a while. What's going on at CC/Greenville? Technical difficulties?

As of 4:45PM, I notice them back on air. .but they were already on when I tuned in, so they probably've been on for awhile.

I was scanning through the frequencies that day about 3:40-3:45 PM and first noticed WESC was off the air. I tuned around and found that all the other CC stations in the area were off as well including 96.7 The Buzzard. The carriers were all still up and RDS information was coming through, but there was dead silence. Kind of made me wonder what was going on. I figured there was a studio problem since the transmitters for the CC stations are all in different locations.

Duh! Dumb me never connected the dots. There was a power failure that day at the Bank of America building in downtown Greenville where the CC studios are located. I seem to recall from news reports that there was some kind of problem with a backup generator as well. O well.

Oh, your original post was Wednesday, my bad.. i didn't notice the date..

The entire Bank Of America Building lost power around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. There is no generator installed here, so, they had a generator brought in and temporarily pulled wire in the stairwell to their electrical room.

660 was stuck on all night too.

660 AM was on the air all night with 50,000watts ND? That must have been a beaut of a signal! I suppose WFAN listeners must have wondered what in the world was going on. Couldn't someone have driven out to the tx site and turned the thing off?

I suppose someone could have gone to the 660 transmitter, but with 4 FMs silent and staff working in darkness I'll bet it wasn't a priority.

Staff working in darkness? You are assuming that actual people were live on the air at the stations. Unless of course you meant CC sales staff.

I was just poking around on Mediabase and notice that there was a 5-hour gap of nothing between 12:00 and 5:12 this morning on WMYI. Looks like the other stations were on. Was there some sort of outage?

I believe we'd refer to that outage as a massive brain fart. A snafu of some kind regarding the log...

For the record, many of the programming staff made the dark stairwell runs up eleven + floors keeping our stations on air...several times. And, yes, after finally getting a generator and our stations back on air, I'm sure our engineer wasn't too concerned that a station was on the air kickin the full juice. It won't kill sports fans to hear a quick message from the Lord.

btw - Buzzard now flies classic all day and nineties and new at night. We go deep on the classics during the day.
