WHAT'S GOING ON WITH NASSAU?

Does anybody have any idea what's up with Nassau in Princeton? Since they sold The Hawk, it's just WPST now and word is that big changes are afoot.

Well... not afoot but happening as we speak.

A good quote to use at this time: "Fasten your safety belts, clench your buttocks! It's going be a bumpy ride!"

94.5 PST isnt in danger is it?

97.5 the hawk was by far the best classic rock station ever, selling it was a dumb move, now look whats there, smooth jazz wtf is up with that!

OK. I have to pipe up. I am not a listener of Classic Rock at all. I know the big name tracks and artists.. but not enough to consider myself well-versed in Classic Rock radio.

That being said... would someone explain to me why everyone thinks that 97.5 The Hawk was better than 102.9 WMGK? Music selection? On-Air Talent? Whenever I would scan by, I got the impression that they were pretty much equal.

Selling 97.5 was stupid? How can you say that? It was very smart! They took a suburban Class B FM from Trenton and moved it into the heart of Market #5 and sold it for a ridiculous amount of money. They moved their more profitable FM (WPST) to 94.5 and did not miss a beat.

Now look at the overal makeup of Nassau...while everyone was lamenting the demise of The Hawk, Nassau managed to become a major player in New England. At this point, WPST is more or less a stand alone FM in Trenton. Perhaps with the pending sale of some Clear Channel properties, Nassau expands its presence in New England even further. I don't see how they keep WPST unless something else is afoot for them to expand their NJ presence, which does not seem likely.

Highly doubtful. They are blowing people out up there (high level management people no less) and others are jumping like rats from a sinking ship (that may be over-stated - but...). They can't afford the stations they already have let alone attempting to add to their holdings. Now they couldn't even sell any of the New England properties since the Clear Channel announcement; smaller and medium market station values have dropped and they couldn't get the ROI. No, I believe Nassau is trying to cut costs where ever they can and just try to keep the lights on until things improve, which more than likely will happen. But will it happen before the cash runs out? We'll just have to wait and see... :-\

just give me a yes or no answer!

IS 94.5 PST GOING OR THE AIR OR IN ANY DANGER OF GOING OFF

I highly doubt it. WPST is a successful medium market station without high priced talent behind the mic. And the 94.5 freq effectively rimshots Philly, where there is nothing similar on the air. The stick is right near the Oxford Valley Mall, which is about 10 miles or so from the city limits. Good coverage in most of Philly, Bucks/Montgomery, and all of South Jersey.

Pretty sure Nassau will carry on with the format.

I wouldn't say all of South Jersey. For 50kw, the 94.5 signal blows. All things being equal, the 94.5 signal isn't anything like 101.5's (101.5 is 400 feet higher).

You don't have to go too far SW of Phila. to have 94.5 WDAC/Lancaster walk all over it, in addition to the 94.3 in Monmouth County.

Both 945 and 943 put a city grade signal over freehold, that shouldn't ever happen. This and the FCC allowing 975 to move to philly reminds me of a song from the adventures of stevie v.

Sell? Nassau has been an investment from day one......you dummies!

Whoa! Chill out dude... I didn't attack you or your company. Just stated a possibility.

And remember - everything is for sale so don't kid yourself.

Hang in there though, it'll be fine... :)

Monmouth County isn't SOUTH Jersey by a longshot. And of course, you wouldn't be able to receive 94.5 in the immediate area around WJLK's tx in Ocean Twp., although, interestingly enough, when the freq. still was the Hawk, they did a live remote from Asbury Park! WKXW's signal does the height advantage, which works in flat terrain like South Jersey. As for SW of Phila., I didn't say a thing about Delaware or Chester County coverage, for the very reason you outlined.

In immediate South Jersey (Camden, Burlington and Gloucester counties) WPST puts in a fine signal. And I've heard it with minimum interference in Galloway Township, Atlantic County (that's in South Jersey too!).

You know, after some additional careful thought, you may be onto something there - just didn't understand what investment you were referring to. Now we all know. It's the state coffers that a company pays into to help offset the Unemployment Compensation paid to employees who are let go from their positions within the company. And from what we've heard, just recently there were a few let go who will be able to take advantage of the investment that was so nicely provided by their 'employer'.

Happy Holidays!! :-\

Yeah, hear their head Scott Studios guy, and Princeton DOE amongst others let go... Right before the holidays... way to go scumbags... Heres to watching Nassau go down in flames, couldn't happen to a bunch of more deserving folks.. Man Karma really does work!!! Also glad to see Clear Channel falling apart as well... people don't want to pay for a milquetoast product, and watered down conservative playlists... so here is the retribution. If they need to look for excuses, whos in charge of Nassaus playlists( Hint- Wears comfortable shoes and has a liquor license..) well besides the other mismanaged departments right across the board there... Its a boondoggle there, and a classic reason why this business sucks. Way to go Nassau- you should be proud...

I agree, what you say is true. But most companies are in business to make money, not loose it. Someone is either getting really poor advice or they have finally just lost it altogether. But, we all love dramas so stay tuned - we'll be right back after this...
