Does anyone know the "real" deal behind Pulse's new kick of playing ONLY new stuff all the time these last 24 hours or so??? Is this the new thing or just a fluke??? Sounds Great!!! Whoever is reading this and likes Pulse... tune in!!! Can't say I hear much repetition either :) FINALLY!! lol

I don't really know, but on my coalition MySpace, (under the blog), I had mentioned earlier yesterday how Pulse 87 was actually starting to bore me (which I didn't WANT to have happen because I like this station WAY better than I ever could try to with 'KTU). Things, to me, just seemed "stagnant" with few new adds regarding dance music (though pop & R&B seemed to be getting somewhat more) as well as tracks just being run the hell out of...such as Chris Brown "With You" and Flo Rida "Low".

I would like to think the remixes were in the plans, but if we had a bit of an inkling of something to do with it...then FANTASTIC!!!! Pulse IS listening!!!! In this radio landscape, it is extremely rare to get that feeling from such a station! :)

To that, thank you Pulse!!!

I still wonder how much posts on Internet message boards (radio-related; sports-related) have influence on "management" pulling the strings. I really do wonder if we as posters have any impact. Before the Internet, what was there? Letters, phone calls? But message boards are immediate and can be accessed readily by those who may want to find out how ppl feel about their radio station or their baseball team. You must temper that feeling by realizing what a tiny tiny minority we here are in comparison with the General Public. I would say less than 0.001%. And also because we are "fans" [fans is short for fanatics], we are more vocal on forums such as these. So my guess is that most ppl in management positions have better things to do with their time than to row through the many posts on an Internet message board. How many here actually get a diary? About a year ago I was contacted by phone by Arbitron and after a 15 minute phone interview they told me that they'd be sending me a diary. It never arrived and later they informed me via letter that they had filled their quota of respondants.

Tony... Let's hope they ARE listening and taking strong heed to what people are saying... Mind you, they have been doing this mixing thing since yesterday, they said it was because of some machine issues they were having so they decided to bring in DJs to fill up the time with remixing.. hmmm... I wonder if that's completely the truth of if there is there another hidden agenda here on their end... and hopefully their advertising on the streets should kick in soon... Tony you should come this Thurs night to Plato's in Astoria.. They are going to be there with Jewelz and DJ Yonny...

I did get confirmation that it indeed is computer issues. The remixes will go on AT LEAST until tomorrow! Where exactly is Plato's? I'll go!

how on earth can a station that expects to compete in NYC radio have an automation system that is seemingly down for days at a time?

what a joke.

sounds like their talent isnt in their normal studio either, I just caught a break and Laura Stylez sounded like she was in a bathroom (lots of room reverb (not in a good way)).

well I certainly hope things will work themselves out.. I have heard of many a story of technical problems in the early days for many of today's greats, like Z100 for instance. It's all about growing pains, I think (and hope :)

Tony Platos is located at 31-84 33rd Street in Astoria NY 11106, it starts at 7pm and free to get in. I'll definitely be there, we should try to introduce ourselves (somehow, lol) My name is J. Hope you can make it man.

Just what is so exciting about hearing house remixes of pop songs (One Republic) diva house (Mariah Carey) and the 1,00th play of Cascada in a weekback to back ::)

It's more exciting than what goes on at "oldies" WCBS and sappy LITE fm at least!

CBS FM rules! and at the moment probably has more employees than Pulse has listeners..so THERE!!!

lol...ah lalumia, as always your friendly commentary never fails to hold such a warm welcome on these boards...but as you MAY have somewhat of a point for "the moment" with that one, HOPEFULLY if Pulse ever gets it freakin' street advertising moving around this city, things might change all that... until then, I think it's safe to say, only time will tell, for better or worse...

Hey, CBS is a good station though you will have those (look on the other board) that will say CBS was better before they flipped to "Jack". But it still is a matter of time as Pulse starts pushing their focal awareness around through advertising and via club appearances.

THOUGH, if something has to be called out, I will do so. And NO FRIGGIN WAY was I gonna touch ANY guys butt, Russian "P. Diddy" or not for a friggin T-shirt! (as I left Plato's around 10PM, I was wondering WT bleep!? and was mentioned during Showboat's show). Hell, I'll make my own shirts before I do that!

Hey Tony - It was great meeting you last night at Plato's. Too bad, Pulse never showed while we were there. I think I know what happened. They "understandably" probably planned on getting there later when they knew it was going to be a lot more crowded, totally makes sense. HOWEVER they simply should have made that more clear to listeners (that they were going to be there at a later time that is, that's all). Ah well, better luck next time I guess. Speak soon man.

It was great meeting you and your friend too!

I left around 10PM and I thought some souped up "bus" was Pulse, but it wasn't. Also, as I was driving back home they had said that Jewelz was there (at least that's what Showboat was "hyping"), but I couldn't find her! I couldn't stay longer because I had to go to work the next day though that one server (the "shawty") was damn cute! I should go back to Plato next time to see her! LOL :)

reasons why I'm slowly turning off Pulse.. (sorry Tony!)

1. too many pop remixes (akon/gwen stefani's 'sweet escape')

2. too much repetition of the same top 10/20 currents. Billboard's Top Dance Club Charts have so much music that hasn't even been touched yet. Why?

3. they are playing george lamond's 'don't stop believing' wayyyyy too damn much! (since 10 this morning I've heard it AT LEAST 3 times!.. 3 times or more in a little over 4 hrs???)

4. their signal has gotten worse where i'm at since early March.

5. i feel that star & buc don't fit on a station like pulse. too much talk the other day about books, poetry, writers, etc. calling homosexuals pillow biters. c'mon guys!! be funnier! butt pirates, pole smokers, something else funny, please. white trash needs to speak less. her raspy voice goes right thru me like patrick swayze in ghost.

6. their website doesn't even have full working functionality.

7. i find only 2 jocks truly entertaining right about now.

8. their not playing a truly widespread playlist. i'll get the "Oh Wow!" factor every so often when I hear something I haven't heard in a while, but that's it. Nothing is grabbing ahold of my ears and making me take notice. I like the polished image, I'm just not feeling the tight cap on the music.

I liked what I heard this past weekend. It was different and it worked. I'd love if Pulse's people would contact me. I'd have no problem offering them a list of what I do on my show. Hell, I'd even love to be part of their air talent. I share the same sentiment as many of you here, including the ring leader, Tony Santiago. If Pulse wants to succeed against all odds (an audio carrier of an LPTV station) then they've gotta take ALL of what's recommended into HEAVY consideration.

No need to apologize about that Myke! I've been noticing the same thing. To the point that before the remixes, I "called out" on it on the coalition MySpace page.

Unlike the rants I did on 'KTU in the past, primarily because I could never get into the station as hard as I've tried, I LOVE Pulse. And the only reason why I would do criticism is for constructive purposes, NOT as a disrespect. This station is NOT like 'KTU. But at the same time, I would hate for Pulse to fall into similar trappings. We've been waiting for a station like this for quite a long time and we want it to be here! So to that, let's take your comments in numerical order.

1. I do understand that Pulse is a rhythmic station (not full-time dance) so pop remixes are part of the equation. But I do think there may be more pop-remixes in there than should be. Not saying dump the pop-remixes...you need to get more people into the station that wouldn't necessarily tune in if it wasn't for the pop, but not to sacrifice other aspects in the process.

2. I did get into the Chris Brown/Flo Rida argument because of the overkill of those two songs. But to that, let's add more (some will shock). Sean Kingston....but, and I hate to say it...Bob Sinclair "Together" and Filo & Peri "Anthem". Granted I like those tunes, but if they went on lesser rotation in favor of new material, I am for it...based on the overkill.

3. When it came out, it worked well since we haven't heard from George Lamond in awhile, but now, the overkill is making me want to pull a "Soprano" here and black things out at the end! Totally agree with that.

4. The signal issues are still hit and miss. Sometimes I can get it in my car when traveling through Rockland County. Other times...nope. That's atmospheric stuff but my hope is that eventually Mega Media can "buy up" a position.

5. They needed names and whether you love em or are a "hater" :) Star & Buc Wild do give that "name". And they are "shock" so whatever they say is on the edge of "offense". Not saying I accept it or deny it....it's what it is and for me, I just take it with a grain of salt.

6. I don't wanna cross a line here regarding websites (since I have the unofficial site going), but I do believe they have to add more info...at least on Laura Stylez, Showboat and Abel Sanchez.

7. I'll leave that comment alone since how people may view some over others is relative.

8. On that...I WISH that if they aren't going to throw in tons of new stuff...at least do recurrents here and there that happened for the two years we didn't have current rhythmic in NYC (though Party 105 was playing it out on Long Island). Granted, most radio stations can be accused of repeating (not just a Pulse issue), but at the same time, Pulse has the big opportunity to take NYC by storm. They can open up a bit more.

9 (My comment).....you can quit the Hot 103/97 throwback tunes. It was great at the beginning hearing songs we haven't heard in over 15 years that 'KTU forgot about. But we can't live in that past either......not to the extent that 'KTU did this. Once in a while is fine...not as part of the rotation.

It's like I said, whatever I am saying here is NOT a diss to Pulse. I'm just giving back what I'm hearing from dance music fans so your comment Myke didn't shock me. We LOVE this station and want it to be around.

Thank you

P.S. And yeah....where is "Dancefloor?" :)

Tony,

All we can do is keep adding our bright ideas to an ever growing list in hopes that Pulse will use the ideas we're all throwing out there before this pulse skips a few beats...

To add to some of Tony's comments:

(Pop remixes are definitely important since that will suck in that audience and expose them to more under the dance genre's umbrella, ella ella eh eh eh eh (sorry, i just had to lol) There are just certain pop remixes that shouldn't be played. I spun all remixes from Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Kelly Clarkson, etc. Based on my conclusion, my audience only liked one song- The Killers When You Were Young (Jacque Lu Conte remix) I don't think that Pulse should play as many pop mixes as they do- KTU and Z-100 take care of that just fine.)

(Flo-Rida has killed my ears permanently. Sometimes I wish I had my own apple bottom jeans and the boots w/ the fur lol... My initial complaint was that they weren't playing enough of those two songs- Together and Anthem. I hear Anthem way more than any Bob Sinclar. Then again, Filo & Peri are native NY'ers. New music? Add Taylor Dayne's Beautiful on a heavier rotation. Add Kleerup/Robyn's "With Every Heartbeat" Donna Summers' "I'm A Fire" is #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Charts and when I debuted that song on my show last week, the phones lit up like mad. Why hasn't Kristine W. went into heavier rotation? Or Erin Hamilton's "The Flame?" Tony, I think if they went moderate on the rotation of new material, but presented A LOT of new material, they'd be in great shape. That allows the equal balance of freestyle, the 90's dance that some of us miss so very much...the 2000's thru current. My most recent 'Oh Wow' factor was not on Pulse.. it was another station. It was Red Carpet's Alright. I smiled. I sang along. Those are the moments Pulse needs to give its audience.)

3. When it came out, it worked well since we haven't heard from George Lamond in awhile, but now, the overkill is making me want to pull a "Soprano" here and black things out at the end! Totally agree with that. (Right now, Look Into My Eyes on overkill would make me happier. Oh, wait. Let me put on KTU for that..)

4. The signal issues are still hit and miss. Sometimes I can get it in my car when traveling through Rockland County. Other times...nope. That's atmospheric stuff but my hope is that eventually Mega Media can "buy up" a position. (There will be enough sinking ships in the near future on the NY Dial. Let's hope for an LMA if not purchasing.)

5. They needed names and whether you love em or are a "hater" Star & Buc Wild do give that "name". And they are "shock" so whatever they say is on the edge of "offense". Not saying I accept it or deny it....it's what it is and for me, I just take it with a grain of salt.
(I don't see their show lasting long. Especially if they buy up a higher notch on the dial. They're going to want something energetic. I hope I don't piss people off by saying this, but I really do miss Baltazar and Goumba Johnny w/ Cindy Vero's morning show. That would be perfect on Pulse!!)

6. I don't wanna cross a line here regarding websites (since I have the unofficial site going), but I do believe they have to add more info...at least on Laura Stylez, Showboat and Abel Sanchez.
(Their site has glitches that won't even let me log in to add comments/move/rate music. Their chat and web cam aren't working, their programs and jocks section needs to actually work! Also, I love their logo, but I don't see an all black background working out for them.)

7. I'm sooooooooo glad that Jewelz is back. Showboat's hot. Works for me lol.

(2004-2007 were some interesting years in the dance world. For the folks that weren't lucky to hear it on XM's BPM, Party 105 or Z-88.9, you guys missed out. Pulse has to fill in those gaps.
No station around here in 2004 was playing Ferry Corsten, Delerium's Truly, Monica's Get It Off remix, Linus Love's Stand Back, Benny Benassi's Illusion, Shapeshifters, Ian Van Dahl, Stellar Project 'Get Up Stand Up'
2005: Kristine W The Wonder Of It All, Tiesto f. Kirsty Hawkshaw Just Be, Narcotic Thrust When The Dawn Breaks, Iio Runaway, Juliet "Avalon", Danielle Bollinger When The Broken Hearted Love Again, Jenn Cuneta Come Rain Come Shine, QED Islands, Deep Dish Say Hello, Donna Summer I Got Your Love, Bodyrockers I Like The Way, Vinylshakerz One Night In Bangkok, Amber Just Like That Jason Nevins Radio Mix, Meck – “Thunder In My Heart Again”, Eurythmics – “I’ve Got A Life”
2006: Paul Oakenfold/Brittany Murphy “Faster Kill Pussycat” Plumb “Cut (Bronleewe & Bose Mix)”, Evermore “It’s Too Late (Dirty South Remix)”, Ferry Corsten “Watch Out”, September “Satellites (Electro Mix)”, David Guetta vs The Egg Love Won’t Let Me Go, Judge Jules So Special, Danielle Bollinger Kiss The Sky (Mike Rizzo Mix)
2007: Armand van Helden I Want Your Soul, Ferry Corsten Beautiful, Tony Moran & Kristine W Walk Away, Ultra Nate’ Automatic (Radio Edit), Get-Far Shining Star (Pornocult Radio Edit), Sunloverz Shine On, Lola I Can’t Take It, Danielle Bollinger You’ll Always Have Me, Tara Z Imagine If
Those are just some song suggestions.)

9 (Tony's comment).....you can quit the Hot 103/97 throwback tunes. It was great at the beginning hearing songs we haven't heard in over 15 years that 'KTU forgot about. But we can't live in that past either......not to the extent that 'KTU did this. Once in a while is fine...not as part of the rotation.
(As long as they throw in on a decent basis, TKA's Louder Than Love, I'll be as happy as a pig in, well, you get the idea lol)

I'm starting to agree with mostly all the comments made in the last few posts. They seriously NEED to ease up on the repitition, and play more new fresh currents. I've actually decided to ease up on my listening to them for a little bit until I start to hear a bit of a difference, I have to say I'm a bit Pulsed out at the moment, lol...
