What's going on with the KJR trimulcast?

RE: KPTR: someone needs to inform the voiceover weather guy at IHeart how to pronounce Yakima.

Hint, it's not Ya-kee-ma, and the emphasized syllable isn't the second one.

Motorhead's Lemmy could get away with it, but a "local" radio station needs to work on it a little bit better.

I've heard it pronounced both ways - Ya-ka-muh and Ya-kee-ma. Around here, it's also pronounced Ick-ee-muh or Ick-uh-muh.

There are probably tens of thousands (oh, make that 100,000 or 200,000) in the Seattle area who have never visited Yakima in their lifetimes. How many people from the east coast don't realize that there is a non-green side of Washington state? They all think of trees, Seattle, and Starbucks...
 
I've never heard it pronounced "Ya-keee-ma" by a local, or by anyone who lives there. It's not a deal breaker, just a sign that the weather report is done back East somewhere. Next up? Spo-kain.
 
I wonder how these folks deal with Pend Oreille?
 
I make fun of my screen reader all the time for pronouncing things wrong! It depends on the screen reader what it gets wrong, but the only one that's ever gotten Puyallup right is VoiceOver.

Tal-A-Quaa, or Tal-E-Quaa. Other than Sequim, (pronounced 'Squim'), most of the NW Native names are pretty easy to sound-out phonetically. Even Puyallup. Pew-al-up.
Do like it when a new anchor or reporter calls it Poo-E-Loop.
