What's going on with WNYH 740 AM?

Anyone know what's going on with WNYH 740 AM? In the past couple weeks they've been having a lot of technical problems and several times this week when I've tried to tune them in they're not on the air. (And this is the middle of the afternoon).

Anything since sundown on Friday is related to Fargo, ND.. all Fargo am's are on daytime power due to a flooding emergency. So KVOX-AM is at 50KW. That may be the reason why there is an issue if it's in the last couple of days.
Just a guess - I donot know for sure if 740 is doing what 1100, 970 and 790 are.

Based on DX reports, only KFGO 790, WDAY 970 and WZFG 1100 are doing the daytime power/emergency coverage thing. Normal programming, and normal night power, continue on 740, 1200, 1280 and 1660.

Thanks Scott... I have enough of a hard time keeping all my eggs in the basket while this is going on. Ya ought to come down.. We'll give ya a boat tour of South Fargo and North Moorhead. ;)

Guess the Caribbean programmers didn't have the $$$ for the airtime..sad to see such a big signal so badly cared for. Audio chain needs adjusting, and the automation set up give legal id's in the :58-:02 window. It could be a great station with TLC.....

With WVCH off early 2 days this week for tower painting, I heard WNYH, albeit at a low level, on my car radio in the WVCH parking lot. 'NYH is supposed to protect WVCH, but I guess the pattern needs work......

Nice Dave. Maybe you ought to complain to the FCC about that. I like WNYH's music and I'm only 26. Solid Gold Hits is what they call the station. I've been listening to them alot lately. They're now giving out a toll-free number for people to advertise on the station or to host their own brokered show. Yes they actually use the word brokered in the ad.

It amazes me that they can't seem to sell time on that station. The music is an obvious placeholder until airtime is sold, but since not much airtime seems to be sold, and what has been sold often hasn't lasted long (e.g. the Caribbean broadcasters), it's become the de facto "format" of the station. But it's really just a fluke.

They were having issues today. I was listening while driving to work. I was listening to a song. It ended and instead of another song playing it went to dead air. When I checked again several minutes later another song was playing then there was an odd noise. Dead air for a moment and then that song came back on.

As for leased time I know there are at least 2 shows. I heard advertisements for them. One is for a show to help people find god. It airs every other Tuesday morning. And then there's a financial advice show that airs Friday mornings.

The station is in serious need of a new owner because the one who owns it now couldn't be further from a radio person. His business philosophy is "well if I can't get clients at $500/hr I'll have to bump that up to $800/hr to the next ones that approach me to compensate for the lack of revenue coming in." Unfortunately that won't work in ANY business model and radio is certainly NO different. Hell even if he accepted a rate of $200/hr it would surely generate a hell of a lot more buzz and interest than anything he's tried before purely based on the coverage area. My belief is that at end of the day if I made .50 well then its .50 more than I started the day with and I'd call it a gain...albeit in a minisucle one.

WNYH has the GREAT potential to be a "player" on the outskirts of the #1 market but unfortunately will never be and certainly not in the near future with the economy and lack of interest in AM properties. I am a HUGE fan of the array of music that is played on the station but instead of it being the PRIMARY FOCUS it IS what a previous poster noted,"filler" and nothing more. As far as the automation system goes, it most definitely needs some "TLC" as there are some bad cuts and tracks in it and it could be "tightened up" a bit too instead of sounding so loose. As long as a rich man runs the property he can apparently afford to be hit in the pocket and be a piss-poor manager simultaneous. What a waste for a large signal that covers CT, NY (LI and the Lwr Hud Valley) and the NJ coastline perfectly.

Sad state for radio yet again...
