WHAT'S GONE WRONG WITH WCVB CHANNEL 5 NEWS !

Watched Channel 5 news over the past few days and they seem to be not to be up to the standard that one has come to expect from them.

On Sunday they reported the tragic drowning of a son and father in a local lake. They reported the story in a very strange politically correct form. The news reader - a new hire - reported that the lake was a favorite for "fishers" not to use the more common and acceptable term fisherman which is gender neutral.

Today at Noon, they reported on the trial of Josiah Spaulding,Jr.
Dial switching I was able to compare and contrast the way Channel 5 and Channel 4 reported the story. Channel 5 did not bother to send a camera crew out to the trial and pulled out a couple of year old tape where Spaulding appeared for a hearing. He was shown in shackles and looked like a skinhead. Channel 4 sent a camera crew to the trial by judge which was taped today. Spaulding has lost a considerable amount of weight and looks fairly normal and is no longer a skinhead.
He still looks quite dazed and has been ordered to get psychiatric help.
Nontheless, why would WCVB Channel 5 run such a prejudicial tape which may not present an actual account of Josiah Spaulding Jr.'s present condition.

Again, we have come to expect more of WCVB Channel 5. What is going on there. Are those in charge on vacation.

Still, WCVB Channel 5 has not been the same nor achieved the same standards since they pushed Paul LaCamera out the door.

Perhaps, it is time to bring Paul LaCamera back before Channel 5 becomes more and more like the tabloid news station Channel 7.

No. CVB should re-hire Paul LaCamera. The station hasn't been the same since they pushed him out the door because of his age primarily.
The news director just follows the direction of the GM of the station.

Re: WHAT'S GONE WRONG WITH WCVB CHANNEL 5 NEWS

As far as court coverage goes: In Massachusetts, they only allow one camera in the courtroom. This is called a "pool" camera. I'm guessing WBZ was the "pool" for that day...that could be why they had fresh video of this guy in court...and maybe WCVB simply didn't send a photographer or live truck operator to get a dub of the new video of this guy in court.

This scenario is also the same in Rhode Island. For example, Channel 10 could be the court pool for this week, Channel 6 next week, Channel 12 the week after, etc, etc. If the Rhode Island stations are covering the courts in Bristol County, Massachusetts, usually it's one of the Rhode Island stations acting as the "pool" and the other stations just get dubs of what the "pool" camera shot. In the New Bedford or Fall River courts, sometimes "Comcast News 9" out of Fall River will shoot the court stuff.

Uh, no, why would I be kidding? You suggested the name of somebody who should be re-hired by a station you seem to bash a lot. So, who is this person?
