What's Happening At WINL and WZNJ in Demopolis

Just discovered that The Southern Gospel Review is no more, on WINL.

As of late, WZNJ hasn't been coming in too good on my truck and/or car radio.

Do these stations have a new owner and is a format change in the works.

If so, I hope WZNJ will ditch their present format and go for something more entertaining.

(Possibly a Jack/Oldies type format again, with some CCM mixed in.)

Hope Ms. Sammons will be allowed to return and do her Gospel program, on WIN 98.5 FM.

I enjoyed listening to it, when I was able to drag it in.

P.S. Love the new ID liners at ALEX FM. They're awesome indeed.

Just discovered that all three stations, in Demopolis, are getting a new owner.

WXAL is still silent, as of this post.
WINL is still doing Country
WZNJ is still doing Adult Urban/Old School

I wonder if WXAL will return to the airwaves and what format will they cater to, once the ownership has changed?
I also wonder if WINL and/or WZNJ will get a new format, once the ownership has changed?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I have an engineer friend that is doing some work to get everything workikng at the stations, so they can be sold. I believe the Brooker is getting them so someone can come in and run things without doing the fixup stuff. Limited staff just to keep things on the air.

Now for my predictions for their future:

WINL stays Country
WZNJ goes Oldies/Classic Hits again
WXAL returns with Conservative leaning talk and finally gets a FM Translator, for fill in purposes.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. That's what I predict will happen, when these three stations finally get a new owner. What are your thoughts? Feel free to express them, if you want.

B.T.W. Thanks to JerryKatz for sharing that info with me. I appreciate it.

R.D.P. do you know how long Southern Gospel Review had been on WINL?

Seems odd for them to remove it when it's so popular. Makes me wonder if a format change is in store for WINL at some point… or if this is just a bump in the road with the new ownership. Neither WINL nor WZNJ have formats that are lacking listeners in the area, methinkst, so it'll be interesting to see what happens. ZNJ just needs a lot of technical work, judging by the way it sounded last time I was through the area. It was pitiful.

Since 1997.

At first, it was a Sunday night program.  After much demand, the program was expanded to Sunday mornings as well.  I'm surprised this program has been dropped.  I though it was doing very well too.

P.S. As of this posting, WINL's web site is getting a makeover. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if WZNJ were to change their format.  Concerning WXAL, it doesn't matter what becomes of them.  As you already know, AM isn't my cup of tea any longer.  I sometimes listen to it but not that often.

Is WIN 98.5 still carrying Citadel's Today's Best Country format. About a month ago I heard the program, but noticed that during the allotted local ID's there were silence, as if WINL were about to update their imaging.

Last time I tuned in, they were still doing Rick and Bubba.

Also they had Ms. Linda Sammons (Former Gospel Announcer) doing the middays.

Not too sure about the satellite fed network though.

And yes WZNJ was coming in a bit better tonight but the sound quality was pathetic.

It sounded like it was coming from a transistor radio.

So sad indeed.

The satellite fed format is/was usually aired overnights, or that's at least what I heard every time I tuned in.

Lot's going on in Demopolis, stations sold to Westburg Broadcasting,
Alabama, LLC - waiting on FCC approval of transfer. Most attention right now to the technical side - both FM xmtrs updated, ZNL with a new exciter - WXAL totally rebuilt from gound up. Most changes will become obvious within the coming weeks.
Formats are under study at present - WIN98 will stay country with a new PD hired, changes forthcoming including new digital audio boards, automation, etc.
More gospel on Sunday AM & PM with even more in the works.

Stay tuned - it's a work in process.

To basshawk10,

Do you see WZNJ going back to their old Soft Rock, Oldies and CCM Mix?
Do you see WXAL coming back and going Conservative leaning talk, with them having a FM translator for fill in purposes?

This inquiring mind wanted to know.

The sound quality at WINL is much better now.

The sound quality at WZNJ is much better now and they're back at full power too.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. WXAL is still silent as of this post.

WXAL is at full power, compete with new ATU, audio processor, Gates One transmitter, and sounds good. This was not just a band-aid.

Streaming on website. Listened to both stations, Only one break per hour (two commercials in set). No announcers, small rotation of liners. Sounds like stations are on auto pilot. ZNJ did have a live gospel show Sunday afternoon, music rotation had several blues songs midday on Monday, few currents.

It was mentioned somewhere on the Mississippi board that the new WINL PD is from Greenville, MS. Can't think of the guy's name right off.
