What's happening in eastern montana radio?

A non-radio friend of mine in Miles City said the manager of MC stations is now managing both Miles City and Forsyth...

What's happening with the stations in Forsyth, Miles City, Baker, Glasgow, Glendive, Sidney???

Most of those cities have stations under Marks Radio Group.I don't know a lot about Marks Radio Group but I take it has a lot to do with them. The Baker station I think is not under Marks at last look. Here is a link to the Marks Radio Group home page.

KFLN-AM & KJJM-FM (The Rock) in Baker are owned by Newell Broadcasting of Baker and have been for a number of years. Russ Newell bought KFLN back in the early 80's and put The Rock on the air around the turn of the century.

The Marks Group owns the largest number of stations in Eastern Montana and western North Dakota, but aren't necessarily the dominant players in any market. I understand they've branched out into another business besides radio & TV, with the purchase of the Jordan Hotel in Glendive. Makes perfect sense to me. ???

The Rock in Baker is good. Is "Vaughn Zenko" (sp) still doing mornings there? They might think about revamping the imaging. It's the same imaging from 4 years ago, but I really like it. I never really listened to the AM station, but I bet it's doing pretty well.

Sad situation in Eastern Montana with the radio stations. That is what automation brings.Owners who only want the 'bean' to go into their pockets and no one else.Radio used to be a team business. You worked your butt off on and off the air to beat the pants off the competition. Now you just buy it,automate it and trash it.Small town radio use to be about the community. There may still be a few good ones there but not many from what I have been able to see.
