What's happening in South Jersey Radio?

After a one year sabattical from the area, things have changed quickly! I'm shocked to hear of the talent swaps in the AC market. I tuned in WAYV and thought I was listening to 103.7. Veteran Nicky G apparently turned in his Led Zepplin and Rolling Stones collections for the Promo Only CHR series. He's tight on-air and sounds good playing the WAYV format, but isn't he a little old for that demo? He and Paul Kelly seem to have swapped companies and positions. Both could likely succeed in the Philly market, but must love the shore to stay put. The Buzz is gone and now "Kiss" is the new format. Kool 983 has been given a much needed makeover. It sounds like a major market station now. The OLD, outdated mimmic of Philadelphia's WOGL is gone. Motown, Soul and Great Rock and Roll has given way to the more modern "Classic Hits" format and it sounds great. Alot of things have shaken up and friends I know inside several stations down here say there are alot more major changes happening. I look forward to being back and listening.

Nicky G and Paul Kelly...in Philly? Hmm. At any rate, Philly radio is firing; not hiring. The last talent hire there was 97.5's new morning guy, Glenn Kalina who's been on every other frequency in town since the late 1800s. Everything old is old again! Everything young doesn't stand a chance... It's sad!

Rumor has it that the WAYV exodus continues...and another very high profile on-air personality will have a new - bigger and better gig - by this time next week.

I have spent about five minutes trying to make this question not sound snarky...but I can't come up with one: Which on-air personality at WAYV is "very high profile?"

Soon - that's a good point. Let's just say that if the rumor is true...it's someone who gets out and about for the station a lot and someone who also does NOT have their goofy face on a bus billboard.

Why all the silly hints? Just come out and say that Heather D. is leaving WAYV !

Oh! I thought everyone already knew that. I figured he was talking about another jock.

I never got the impression that Heather was what anyone would call "high profile!" Hmmmmmmmmmm...

Gotcha, but, what other jocks are there? If it's NOT someone who has their goofy face on a bus billboard, and we already know Heather's going, who else could it be?

I hear them say on the air that they have the most listeners...why would anyone leave a number 1 station? Where is she going? Probably joining her friends at WJSE/WMGM/WTKU is my guess.

GSP..."The most listeners" is a very molestable phrase. In some sub-group determined by numbers-crunchers, almost any station can claim to have the most listeners. When it comes to actually having the most listeners, however, WAYV most certainly does not.

Buddy of mine says she is going to SOJO

Leaving a Fischer property to go to Millennium?? Wow...can you say 2 times ZERO = ZERO!!??

I hope it was financially a smart move... which doesn't say much for radio namely in today's landscape!

::)

I don't want to work in radio at all. But if I had to...and I had to do it in New Jersey...I'd way rather do it for Millennium than for Equity. Call me crazy!

Glenn is one of the most talented jocks in Philly. His numbers speak for themselves

I worked with Heather at the college level and at WAYV..this is a great move for her...1 Equity pay blows I guareentee she got a nice raise by leaving..2 SOJO comes in crystal clear in Philly which could lead to better opportunities..3 I've known Heather for a while she has no ego and is a stronger jock when pushed and given direction...I'll bet she was never given advice,or criticsm at AYV...I was there part-time for three years had one air-check ever...things are always done half-assed at AYV...no jock is a better jock because of there time there. Heather is a genuinely nice person and a pleasure to work with. I wish her the very best.

hahaha that is a funny reply. Nothing against Heather DeLuca but I am laughing really hard at the notion that there exists such a thing as a DJ with no ego.
