Whats happening with ESPN Classic?

I heard that it has converted to a VOD channel on Dish, is this only going to be happening on Dish or whats happening?
Would it not be better if they rebranded it into ESPN Plus and they showed some of the live events from ESPN3 on tv rather than getting rid of the linear channel altogether?, or have it as an alternate channel for other live programming when the rest of the ESPN channels are all showing live events? Surely they have lots of niche sports that they could stick on it?
