What's in the water at NESN?

What the heck is going on with NESN's Red Sox team?

For the third or forth time since the beginning of spring training, Jerry Remy is out again. Don't know what the reason is this time and I don't know how long he'll be out but he was out tonight when I tuned in about the 7th inning. (Jerry didn't miss much with the Sox losing 14-0 to Tampa Bay). Buck Martinez filled in with Orsillo tonight.

For some reason, pre-game and post-game host Tom Caron has been growing a goatee for the last several weeks which probably explains why there were no closeups of him for awhile.

Jim Rice hasn't shaved in awhile and looks like an old man with his very salt and peppery beard.

What's in the water over there? ???

Rays 13 Sox 0 ( Rays 6 Sox 2 last night ).

Buck Martinez is back in tonight subbing for Jerry Remy. Don Orsillo mentioned that Jerry is taking time off to rest but didn't give anything specific. Perhaps the chest infection that kept him away from the start of spring training has returned.

Whatever it is, it's taking awhile. Orsillo mentioned that NESN studio analyst Dennis Eckersley will join him in the booth on Monday and Tuesday for the Yankee series.

For what it's worth, Buck Martinez has done a really nice job.

Just got back from vacation in Florida. While there, read in USA Today that Jerry is taking a leave of absence to deal with cancer surgery. Apparently, he had throat surgery late last year (long time smoker).
