What's missing from these "just introduced" tabletop radios?

Well Amen Brother (you're right, we don't disagree alot). But the digital solution of which you speak was ruled-out by the FCC when they mandated in band, on-channel. The FM system we have comes pretty close to offering what you speak of (there are problems, but solvable ones I believe). But AM HD seems to be the work of Satan! It truly does the harm to "neighbors" that you claim. I can hear it. I can measure it. So can you. On that, perhaps, most of us can agree!

I notice that NAB is asking the FCC to increase the digital signal on FM by 10 db. It will be interesting to see if that actually works. So far interference problems on FM have been minor. A 10 db increase could bring it closer to "the work of Satan" in some areas. I'm not sure that it actually will, but it looks like we are getting ready to find out.

Fasten your seat belts. It's going to be a bumpy flight.....
