What's My Line? & I've Got A Secret Back on GSN

Fans of classic game shows should note, GSN (Game Show Network) is running these two black-and-white programs weeknights at 3am and 3:30pm ET.

Both date from either the 50s or early 60s. I just happened to notice it a few days ago. The programs are scheduled all week including Sat. morning at 3am. But apparently it's not a one-week plan. I checked the program guide on my cable system and after a break over the weekend, WML and IGAS are back on at 3am on Tuesday morning Dec. 20. GSN used to run classic game shows every night including WML, IGAS, Beat The Clock, Password and To Tell The Truth as "Late Night Black and White" or "Way-Back Playback," but stopped doing that a few years ago.

3am is pretty late but I intend to record the programs. I have a dad who's 91 and it's fun to watch the shows with him and have him comment on the celebrities and guests. Most TV shows today go too fast for his tastes but not these shows.

Maybe this is just a holiday favor to fans of classic game shows. Needless to say, I hope GSN continues this practice even after the holidays.

I take it that 3:30PM is not a typo.....for 3:30AM.

They need to do something with their morning games. After seeing the same 10 contestants
about 10 times repeatedly on Card Sharks, I found something else to watch. Card Sharks was
ok, but it was not the holy grail that GSN seems to think it was.

You're right... What's My Line? at 3am, I've Got A Secret at 3:30am.

And I agree, why run Card Sharks two or three times a day? It really wasn't that special. I hope GSN continues to run black-and-white shows at 3am instead of another run of Card Sharks or lesser shows simply because they're in color.

I like "Card Sharks", specifically the versions hosted by Jim Perry and Bill Raffety, and I wish the Game Show Network would present every edition of those versions along with the version hosted by Bob Eubanks for folks who want to see and hear his version. They had been presenting the same number of editions of the versions hosted by Jim Perry and Bob Eubanks over the past year.

"Beat the Clock" was my favorite program from the programming blocks the Game Show Network dedicated to black and white game shows. It reminded me of "Double Dare" (the Nickelodeon version) with its physical challenges, or stunts, as they were called on the program.

Bravo to GSN for bringing back "WML" and "IGAS," and I
hope they stick with the original (John Daly-hosted, with
Dorothy, Arlene, and Bennett) "WML." I hope they get
some "To Tell The Truth" (and I wish they'd give some exposure
to Garry Moore's version, which I actually prefer to Bud Collyer's),
"Beat The Clock" (stick with Collyer; Gene Wood was a better announcer
than host, and I saw the Jack Narz version only once), "Password" (too
bad the '70s ABC version was apparently destroyed), and "Two For The
Money" (just to see Tom Brokaw's appearance in 1957).

I still miss the old "Sunday Night In Black And White," but would take these
in the daytime in place of the umpteenth rerun of "Deal Or No Deal," and
definitely in the early evening instead of "Baggage" and "The Newlywed Game."
But being these old Goodson-Todman shows are in black and white, I don't
think GSN will ever put them in a peak viewing slot.

BTW, has anyone noticed that Chuck Woolery's version of "Lingo" is still playing
from noon-1 PM (ET), but Bill Engvall's seems to have been banished to the weekends?

The newer version of LINGO is quite different from the older one. The older one is more like
a game show. The newer one is more like a comedy & game show........looks easier to play.

The newer version of Lingo does look like it's been reworked to allow Bill Engvall to make jokes. One thing I do like though is that the top prize is $100,000 compared to the increasing jackpot in Woolery's version. I don't know what the biggest amount ever was, but most times that I've seen it it was in the $10,000 to $20,000 range.

I also responded to this in the National TV board. We've been complaining about GSN removing Black & White shows over the last 2+ years.

Jack Lemmon was the mystery guest on the 23 December What's My Line. They mentioned he had a new picture opening within the week: How to Murder Your Wife, which was released on 20 September 1965. Sadly, Dorothy Kilgallen died on 8 November 1965. If they are going in order, expect the tribute show to be shown soon.

And again, GSN pulled W.M.L. and I.G.A.S. off their early morning schedule. I refuse to watch the channel until they bring back the classic Black & White game shows.

GSN seems to have run out of ideas. Thus.......Dancing With The Stars. Now in primetime
they show only one show (different show on each night). Is this an attempt to see what
show works best in what time slot?
